I found I was making good bullets while I was regularly fluxing and skimming off the dross. Keep it mixing. Don't let your top screw on your lee melter wind out too much (less is more).
It's a good idea to have that thing sitting in an oven tray till you can trust it's not gonna dump hot lead out. I did this and it took a while to clean up the mess
(It all went back in the pot but my pride is still recovering)

Am very much looking fwd to this arriving soon. It's the only hollowpoint mould MP has in stock atm for the .458 fans. They do have a more sleek model but it's on backorder (and makes a lighter projectile).

I cast a heap of 38 cal 300 grain bullets during the week to make up this dummy round to try on a dummy chamber I cut
Wanted to make sure my chamber reamer was on spec for the bullets I want to run in it

    It's a Stevens 44 1/2 re barrel in 38-55
These bullets are a bore rider type

Sorry mate cant help there haven't made it that far only learnt the process, due tot the nature of the process and material I don't see why a hand held infrared one wouldn't do the job.

Very nice mate I'm running the same style in 500gr in my 45-70 the first driving band is engaging the rifling upon chambering.
it is very consistent and accurate they are subsonic but still it seems unless I hit bone they will run the length of a deer and just split a boulder behind it.

I would be interested in measuring the bore rider 45 500s and seeing the mould

Not so much for my 1885 45-70 but that style would be good in a 45-90

So is anyone casting a gas check 30 cal and how hard are you casting it and how fast are you pushing it ?

Just brought a Saeco #311 double cavity mould
Should cast a 165 grain gas check bore rider .308 bullet
The way component shortages and costs have gone I decided to get this mold when it was offered and see how they go in my 30-30s

I will make a custom lube sizer die to seat the gas check and have fewer lube holes because the bore rider only has two lube grooves in the full diameter base

A good feller from the coast cast these for me so I do not have the mould but I will have a measure up of the projectile and chuck you through the details if you like?

I just had to go to the workshop to check out a mould size and decided to make a master list of whats there to save going out and seeing in the future

I have never bothered with gas checks despite having a few gas check moulds
But now with the current shortages and having just brought the saeco #311 308 gas check mould I thought its time to give them a try

If anyone has unused lube sizer dies I could do with 308 and 323 and 379
And intend turning my own to get around the current lube sizer die shortages

    This is my master list
These are ( mostly ) not for sale
    Some are available on loan
Some I cast with for friends
Some are so precious that they will not be available on loan because they were the magic bullet in a certain difficult rifle

    Bullet Moulds

6mm Lyman RN Gas Check 84 grains

308 Saeco Bore rider Gas Check 165 grains

323 Lyman RN Gas Check ? single cavity
Lyman RN Gas check ? Double cavity

    357 Lyman Keith style ?

    375 / 38 Muzzleloader ?

    Muzzleloader ?

    Lee Pistol 130 grains

    CBE Bore rider 300 grains

    Lyman Flat base 248 grains

    Lee Boat tail 250 grains

40 Lee Ball / REAL conical Muzzleloader

    427 Lyman Flat base ?

    45 .442 Ball for 45 cal Muzzleloader

.449 Ball for 45 cal Muzzleloader

45 Lee Ball / REAL conical Muzzleloader

45 Dyson Whitworth hexagonal helical Muzzleloader

457 Lee Flat base 340 grains

    Lee Flat base 405 grains

    Lyman Flat base 500 grains

    50 ? Ball Muzzleloader

    510 Lee Flat base 450 grains 50-70

Lyman Great plains 395 grain Muzzleloader

    52 .510 Ball for 52 cal Muzzleloader

    56/57 ? Ball for 577 ? Muzzleloader or Snider

    72 .710 Ball for 12 bore Muzzleloader

There are a few pistol ones I cant really identify
And I'm sure there are a few others that aren't where they should be

But if something there is whats needed to get an orphaned rifle out of the gun safe and going again I'm happy to help

If anyone has gas checks, moulds, sizer dies etc they want to sell or donate to this mould library please PM

No, and likely not accurate enough. Ideally a socket and thermocouple in through the side of the pan into the molten puddle would give you the most reliable reading - I've used a laser in the past and found them quite rubbish especially on gas rings as the melt source. The laser tends to get confused and end up trying to read the heat coming off everything as it's just too radiant with too much convecting heat to get a decent IR ping of the surface of the metal.
