Check Amazon eh. I got a lyman electronic one with a probe and it does the job well. Really cheap too considering what it does

Am very much looking fwd to this arriving soon. It's the only hollowpoint mould MP has in stock atm for the .458 fans. They do have a more sleek model but it's on backorder (and makes a lighter projectile).

Would a probe style analogue thermometer from my old Weber BBQ do the job?
I know a lot but it seems less every day...

No, and likely not accurate enough. Ideally a socket and thermocouple in through the side of the pan into the molten puddle would give you the most reliable reading - I've used a laser in the past and found them quite rubbish especially on gas rings as the melt source. The laser tends to get confused and end up trying to read the heat coming off everything as it's just too radiant with too much convecting heat to get a decent IR ping of the surface of the metal.

I make my own moulds for 45/70, and im using lead at around 10 to 14BHN depending on the mould also use the pencil check method it works fine, shooting out to 960 yards with open sights

I found I was making good bullets while I was regularly fluxing and skimming off the dross. Keep it mixing. Don't let your top screw on your lee melter wind out too much (less is more).
It's a good idea to have that thing sitting in an oven tray till you can trust it's not gonna dump hot lead out. I did this and it took a while to clean up the mess
(It all went back in the pot but my pride is still recovering)

I cast a heap of 38 cal 300 grain bullets during the week to make up this dummy round to try on a dummy chamber I cut
Wanted to make sure my chamber reamer was on spec for the bullets I want to run in it

    It's a Stevens 44 1/2 re barrel in 38-55
These bullets are a bore rider type

Very nice mate I'm running the same style in 500gr in my 45-70 the first driving band is engaging the rifling upon chambering.
it is very consistent and accurate they are subsonic but still it seems unless I hit bone they will run the length of a deer and just split a boulder behind it.

I would be interested in measuring the bore rider 45 500s and seeing the mould

Not so much for my 1885 45-70 but that style would be good in a 45-90

A good feller from the coast cast these for me so I do not have the mould but I will have a measure up of the projectile and chuck you through the details if you like?

Multiple lines under a certain caliber are all in that caliber

    So yes 6x 38 moulds
