So is anyone casting a gas check 30 cal and how hard are you casting it and how fast are you pushing it ?

Just brought a Saeco #311 double cavity mould
Should cast a 165 grain gas check bore rider .308 bullet
The way component shortages and costs have gone I decided to get this mold when it was offered and see how they go in my 30-30s

I will make a custom lube sizer die to seat the gas check and have fewer lube holes because the bore rider only has two lube grooves in the full diameter base

I just had to go to the workshop to check out a mould size and decided to make a master list of whats there to save going out and seeing in the future

I have never bothered with gas checks despite having a few gas check moulds
But now with the current shortages and having just brought the saeco #311 308 gas check mould I thought its time to give them a try

If anyone has unused lube sizer dies I could do with 308 and 323 and 379
And intend turning my own to get around the current lube sizer die shortages

    This is my master list
These are ( mostly ) not for sale
    Some are available on loan
Some I cast with for friends
Some are so precious that they will not be available on loan because they were the magic bullet in a certain difficult rifle

    Bullet Moulds

6mm Lyman RN Gas Check 84 grains

308 Saeco Bore rider Gas Check 165 grains

323 Lyman RN Gas Check ? single cavity
Lyman RN Gas check ? Double cavity

    357 Lyman Keith style ?

    375 / 38 Muzzleloader ?

    Muzzleloader ?

    Lee Pistol 130 grains

    CBE Bore rider 300 grains

    Lyman Flat base 248 grains

    Lee Boat tail 250 grains

40 Lee Ball / REAL conical Muzzleloader

    427 Lyman Flat base ?

    45 .442 Ball for 45 cal Muzzleloader

.449 Ball for 45 cal Muzzleloader

45 Lee Ball / REAL conical Muzzleloader

45 Dyson Whitworth hexagonal helical Muzzleloader

457 Lee Flat base 340 grains

    Lee Flat base 405 grains

    Lyman Flat base 500 grains

    50 ? Ball Muzzleloader

    510 Lee Flat base 450 grains 50-70

Lyman Great plains 395 grain Muzzleloader

    52 .510 Ball for 52 cal Muzzleloader

    56/57 ? Ball for 577 ? Muzzleloader or Snider

    72 .710 Ball for 12 bore Muzzleloader

There are a few pistol ones I cant really identify
And I'm sure there are a few others that aren't where they should be

But if something there is whats needed to get an orphaned rifle out of the gun safe and going again I'm happy to help

If anyone has gas checks, moulds, sizer dies etc they want to sell or donate to this mould library please PM

Awesome mould. Bit of faff setting up the hole makers as they came completely disassembled but they just screw together. Bullets came out well.

It's got one of those spring washers so the tension needed a bit of tightening up. Gotta add more grease I guess

Two coats of white blue mix and a resize to .459". Good accuracy and doing 1800fts.

Most likely me letting the mould get too hot. It gets a bit sticky and then the hp cone sticks.
These ended up with a potential G1 BC of .242 (taking labradar results and putting them into the JBL online app.)
I'd seen posts advising that you interpolate the rear readings carefully. If you take the highest recorded speed near 110m it will skew that same BC to .285 (giving you false hopes of staying out of the dirt)

a super quick champher with case debur tool or large drill bit and you would never notice...hopefully they will group rather than pattern for you.

    My cast lead today

38-55 250 grain cast flat base
    100m group
    First three into 20mm
Bullets weren't weight sorted so might explain shot no.4
Or I got excited and pulled it
    Or fouling build up

Anyway a good result in a recent restoration

Today I did it again with weight sorted bullets

First three bullets went into 15mm at 100m and then the fourth went 100mm low
That has me a bit confused until I went back to the loading bench ( 5m from my shooting bench ) and realised one bullet was missing from a completely different pile of 38 bullets
    So that was my flyer

But now I have stripped the block and am making a new firing pin because the one in it was made by Bubba

Great group those first three. How many shots would it take on average before fouling / leading makes accuracy drop off ?

With Alox only 3 to 5 rounds

But I might start powder coating the bullets it likes most

Why can we shoot 22's for years without years and not have accuracy problems, both subs and supers ?
    Can soft 20 - 1 or 30 - 1 bullets be powdercoated ?
    Quite grunty that 38/55

I'm surprised, I don't use alox rather beeswax lard mix but have fired 25 straight without aparrent loss of accuracy. Got the same result with some if Robs 250 grain flat base bullets with his trademark red lube. Speed is a shade over 1450 fps. Maybe a greased card wad to protect the base may help
