Just saying, I’ve shot in small bore clubs for 25 years and never seen any cci on the mound.

I think you might be slightly missing the point mate. The issue here is the change in CCI SV performance, not whether historically one ammo is better than the other.
CCI Standard Velocity has shot very well in this rifle for several years. Reliable, precise and accurate, and always subsonic. Members here have been bored to death looking at pictures of magpies shot with this rifle. The ammo was good enough for me to be able to cleanly kill rabbits, hares & magpies with a very high hit percentage. Due to the terrain here nearly all shots on small game are >60m and most are in the 70-80m range. 100m hits are normal and I only start to see accuracy drop off on rabbit size targets around 120m (for shoulder shooting).
I never shoot paper as I have zero interest in it. I also have no interest in match ammo prices!
As @Wingman will attest, this rifle will happily shoot one ragged hole at 50 m with cheap CCI SV. Between me and Wingman we have quite a few photos of what this rifle will do with good quality SV. There’s a video somewhere of me shooting a small gong at 200 m with this ammo, plink plink plink one after the other.
This morning I went about eliminating the suppressor as a cause by first cleaning it extensively (no change) then fitting a full size over-barrel .22 cal DPT (no change, still supersonic every 2nd or 3rd shot). I tried to shoot another group with the normal rimfire suppressor (A4 paper, centre target) and had one shot not even land on the paper! The flipside to this is that yesterday I shot four magpies in four shots at a tad over 80m and each report was perfectly quiet. The four bullets were taken out of the other end of the box to this morning… It’s a total lottery. I also noticed this morning that some of the projectiles were loose in the case.
@rambo-6mmrem is 100% correct, when the boxes changed, the ammo changed. That’s been my experience. Probably just coincidence but it’s a marker in the sand for me and I am now probably put off recently manufactured SV altogether.
Historically, with CCI SV, groups have been considerably better than the pictures I posted earlier. Now that I’ve said this I have kinda forced myself to go and find some representative photos, which I shall do later. And that video.

Flyblown,
I understand what your saying. My experience is that while cci May have been better in the past, the variability was always there, now it’s just worse, so move on and find a more consistent brand or batch.
Hey @Flyblown - for the purposes of science I'd try two more things (I've re-read the thread and can't see if you've already done this, so apologies if you have)
Try the batch in another rifle of known performance - if it shoots like shit its probably the ammo
If it isn't as bad as it is in your rifle then two further possible causes:
- your rifle has developed a carbon ring, these are common in 22's and are invisible to anything but topnotch diagnostic equipment, easily fixed with a thorough cleaning with CLR (if you are cheap) or a carbon cleaner if you want to spend $35+
- less likely but inconsistent ignition will open up groups a lot on 22's, causes are a tired/weak mainspring or oil/gunk/dirt in the bolt body
I got given a brick of supposed "shit" CCI SV "Target" (so not hollownose hunting ammo) which is also the 1070 fps stuff and its actually not too bad.
@Flyblown try removing all the bullets with loose projectiles they should be your flyers or bad ones https://youtu.be/mZeifbEHDuo have been trying to buy one of these dies off ebay but they end up selling for around 200.00
Here's a test of 55 types of 22 ammo. It is all through one rifle which is a limitation as different rifles all have distinct preferences. However ..a number of these ammos are roughly where I'd expect them, and CCI Std does rather well for a cheap target plinker/practice round - which is what it is:

Quality variation from ammo manufacturers happens quite often. 10-15 years ago was using alot of minimag and it was good in my hunters. Then for a year or two there it was very poor. Similarly, Aussie powerpoint was excellent in one of my hunters 10 years ago, then batches for couple of years were very poor. You'd think you were shooting from a different rifle! Went to extent of ringing powerpoint admin in Aus but no clear answer as to decline in quality. Not uncommon problem..
Early days yet............ Don't want to jinx this.... But after @Tentman's #36 post I did some googling as per his instruction and went with CLR - removed the barrel, short soak, scrub, patch out, oil, pull through... Re-assemble rifle.
20 shots into the target, not a single crack. Shots 1-8 all over the place (high, left), shots 9-15 suddenly groups in a tight cluster (mostly one hole). Adjust scope, shots 16-20 all in the bull.
Fuck.
Pop over to the horse paddock, wind is blowing it's tits off. Shot magpie at 98m with normal 2 mil hold, straight into the wind. Mate flew up and landed under the tawa, 68m across the wind, DRT with the usual half mil hold and a magpie's width for windage. No sonic cracks. Weather has packed in so more testing tomorrow.
I've tried Hoppes, Sweets, Boretech, Autosol, something else at my mates place I can't remember. I last cleaned with Boretech Rimfire about 3 weeks ago - problems persisted.
CLR... didn't know about that.
So the wife is looking up the recipe for the humble pie I hope I'll be cooking by tomorrow arvo. If the weather is sweet I'm going to put 50 rounds down the tube, see what happens. If CLR has fixed it, I'll eat the whole pie and be grateful I learned something (and I'll say sorry to the CCI tech).

Frustrating but it looks like you maybe on the right track.
I jinxed it.
It's the ammo. Selected a random box of 50 from the 500 carton, loaded it up, CRACK CRACK CRACK, all over the fucking place. Somehow I managed yesterday after the clean to find a consecutive run of 22 (as in amount) that were fine. Fool!
Back to square one.

Been there, done that...
Thanks to the fellas that helped me with this problem, got some very useful messages with advice and tips. Big thanks in particular to @Tentman for helping me find a replacement brand of ammunition that is just outstanding in my CZ455. What you did there Foster saved me a huge amount of aggravation in the current ammo crunch, cheers mate.
The original batch of CCI Standard Velocity in the old dark blue boxes was genuine one ragged hole in my rifle, as proven by me, @Wingman, my mate Sam and my wife - repeatable 10 shot touching groups at 50m with only one or two noticeable flyers in every box of 50 rounds. And never any supersonic cracks. I was smacking magpies out to 130-140m and had no concerns whatsoever. But this July 2020 batch of Standard Velocity ammunition was appalling - first shot from the first box went BANG and was >3” high and left! WTF? The random supersonic cracks were driving me crazy because not only do I need my ammo to be subsonic and quiet, but the crazy flyers were educating magpies in a way they were unlikely to forget.
I collected chrono data and took photos but didn’t get anywhere with the technician at CCI initially, very unhelpful. They have certain thresholds for velocity and accuracy that they work too and I guess if you are very close to those limits but not past them then you’re not going to win an argument. Plus I think the way you present the evidence needs to be carefully thought through, and I needed to shoot a reasonable sized dataset to capture the full extent of the variability.
So I persisted with the dialogue with my friend in Idaho - bet his eyes were rolling when he saw my name pop up in his inbox. But credit where it is due, when he saw the last two lots of data, he decided okay this is obviously no good and this Dave bloke isn’t giving up. Of course me having posted to Rimfire Central had nothing to do with it whatsoever… eh.
Yesterday a cheque for USD 110 turned up as recompense for the 1,000 rounds acquired from Broncos. I think I shall frame it and keep it in my study as a reminder that persistence and tenacity pays.

i cooked my DPT in my oven during its pyroletic cleaning function (gets to 500deg). It erased the carbon but took off the anodizing. completely fixed the functionality tho, just added some new seals to the compartments and some grease. Alu doesn't melt that far down so i knew it would be fine
