    Crimping 308win subsonics?

    Hi all,
This has happened at the range the odd time and hunting the last week which cost me a deer.
I’ve had a issue only with the odd subsonic 151gr HP cast lead projectile in 308win. The problem is when I feed a loaded round into the chamber and the bullet occasionally hits the side of the chamber pushing the projectile into the cast fully all the way in. I don’t have this problem in my 300 blackout.
At the moment I’m getting an ES of 20 fps with the 151gr HP cast subsonics and a 10 fps ES supersonics with 168gr.

    I full length size everything.
It happens in all Winchester, Starline and Lapua brass.

I was either going to get a smaller neck bushing or a crimp die.

    Cheers
    Tikka

Get a lee crimp die, or put a crimp or put a stake or 3 in BEHIND the projectile so it can't back into the case.

I lightly crimp my subsonics. I use Lyman dies and the seating die can be set to give a roll crimp.

+1 for the Lee FCD. Don't be too aggressive with it as it will bite sharply into the lead forming a cannelure in effect wherever your case mouth happens to fall. just enough to prevent setback but it will also give you more uniform pressures as it resists the gases from the powder burn, each crimp being the same.

They don’t feed well in my A7, I single load and crimp mine.

Yup, I crimp mine @ Tikka. Standard .308 Lee die. I seat them to the cannelure and lightly crimp. I don’t get any feeding problems and it deals with any slight inconsistency in projectile shape. It also tightens up MV and accuracy.

I didnt have issues with bullets moving into the case but crimping my 300blk trailboss loads made them far more accurate
