Dupont IMR 4227 vs IMR 4227

Last week @Muttonguts gifted me an unopened canaster of Dupont IMR 4227 for use in my Hornet. Thanks Bruce! Nice to meet you!

On researching load data I can find IMR 4227 Hornet loads in the HODGDON 2023 ANNUAL RELOADING MANUAL. The references do not use the Brand Name Dupont, only IMR4227.

It is possible that the with sales, acquisition's and merges the Dupont Brand gunpowder may not even exist anymore....???

So the question is, "Is Dupont IMR4227 the same as IMR4227? Can I use the HODGDON reloading data with confidence that it is the same product?

The reason for this cautious approach is I recall reading that different manufacturers use the same code for their products, but the performance of the powder is vastly different, for example, from the HODGDON manual there is both H4227 and IMR 4227. Is there a third one called DUPONT IMR 4227

Nice old can of that. Dupont was the father of all the 4227 clones. I am still using powder from a similar tin, when it's gone I'll probably swap to adi. That might not be of much use but looking in an old Lyman manual from when Dupont made it these are the hornet loads.

Thanks Marty, I'm currently loading 9.8grn of ADI AR2205. Looks like I can swap straight to 4227 using th3 same quantity and not over load things. Thanks Hugh

Photo nailed it. Usual deal, start at the low end and work up as some of the older powders had a wee bit of lot to lot variation as well as it's on the worn down teeth end of the 'tooth age/length scale'.

Hey Hugh, me old mate. Do you have access to land for sighting in?
If yes I might be able to wander down one day and you rattle a few
past my LabRadar if ya wanted? That might give you an answer or two
    Cheers MG
