    Federal TLR Projectiles - 30Cal

    Anyone use them?

How did they perform and were they worth the extra over something like the ELD-X projectiles

I tried some in 270WSM cause I got caught up in the hype of wanting to try something new, I have some more loaded up to try but to be honest they were lighter than the equivalent ELDX pill twice the price and I couldn't get them going as fast accurately, I will be sticking with the ELDX as they are a proven killer in my rifle with zero failures.
I will try the ones I have loaded up but unless they fly significantly faster then my ELDX there's no chance I'll be changing as I would loose too much in ft/lbs

Thought about giving them a go in 7mm until I saw the price. Hornady will continue to do me just fine I think

I didnt think the price was to bad really @ about $1.60 ish each if they hold together like partitions but better bc. Given what we spend on all the other stuff we carry hunting.
I don't see them as a high use projectile, I have others for that use

Yep loaded them for my mates 300wm. He used them for plains shooting in Africa. Very accurate, think we got them shooting about .3 or .4
Work exactly like they say and hold together extremely well.

Thought I had some pics of recovered ones but can’t find them. Negligible weight loss and near perfect mushrooms for the ones we found, hitting bones didn’t seem to do much to them. Closest shots were a Nayala at 20m and a Blue wildebeest at about 150m furthest was a springbok at 890m. Can’t recall what speed they were at the muzzle but can probably find out for you.

@Plinky that sounds a bit like the recovered ones in an article I found on them. Mushroomed up to 900ms.
I was interested to see if they would be worthwhile in a 264 win mag whenever that gets up and running.
If they do what they show and do that up to 500m for me, I'll be very happy, Wont go through that many to worry if they are a little dearer

Yep they certainly performed as advertised. I use vld hunters in my 300wsm here but am thinking of swapping. The tlr’s were just about as accurate and caused far less damage particularly on smaller stuff. Yes they cost a bit but not as much for a box as the fuel or takeaways for most trips.
I’ve got a 6.5 build planned and want to try them for that too.

I am hoping for a similar velocity from the 175's in my 300WSM. I guess I will have to wait till after the "lockdown" to test loads
