Sorry if I'm pissing you off but, whats over stretch? where else can it go?
VIVA LA HOWA
I used to full size all my .223 and .270 cases, but switched to neck sizing years ago.
Have had 6 or 7 reloads from the same cases neck sizing in .270 without problems before I changed brass.
Had been through 1000's of .223 cases of several types and never had problems before I re-chambered the rifle to .223AI.
Nothing wrong with neck sizing!
i load for 3 of my rifles and only neck size and havent had any problems at all but also as someone mentioned when loading the same caliber but for different rifles the ammo may not be interchangeable a good example is i load 22 hornet neck sizing improved the accuracy quite a bit but i have 2 hornet rifles and the reloaded ammo isnt interchangeable between them as the case has fire formed to suit each chamber which have different tolerances make sure you clearly label your ammo if you do this
Hi Guys
So after shooting a couple of rounds at the weekend I was getting the same group size and point of impact with neck size and full size, no surprise but was worth testing.
Turns out that this load has decided it is a bit hot, for the first time with this load was getting ejector marks so back to the drawing board anyway...buggar. Was a nice warm day may have made the difference, rifle had tons of time between groups, tons of people at the range!
Managed to get my best group ever shooting the 243, so pleased with that, all that and an all blacks win, Happy As!
Cheers

load?

308 was 49.5 grains 2208 pushing 130 tsx barnes seated 50thou off lans, i have fired about 15 rounds of this load with no problems but on saturday all 3 rounds of the group had slight ejector marks. max load according to barnes data is 52 grains.
All good will drop it back a grain and see how it goes.
I have been trying to get my head around using a micrometer and measuring case expansion, probably a bit more accurate than having a look at the primer!
cheers

Its very soft in the head(like me !)
I wouldn't be too concerned with slight marks as they do that factory loaded. Providing your not getting sticky bolt lift or anything scary like primers falling out.
What velocity are you getting?

Yep me too! Soft in the head that is.
No primers falling out, very slight sticky lift though!
Dont have a chrony yet so not sure how fast they going. I am not shooting from a plane so should be easy enough to measure

Brass is pretty expensive especially in odd calipers and materials now really pricy so I'd suggest neck sizing if possible to get your $s back.
While Im very happy with the Lee full size die, and ppl have success with lee neck collet dies, I dont....they dont like me, ie sometimes it takes 3 goes to get a fit/squeeze which means caliper checking every time, til Im happy, takes way too long for me*. So ive bought S type neck Redding competition dies for 303 and 308 and im just looking at what brass to standardise on. The bugger is the collet at $23 each per size.
*Im going to try a new / another press shortly, my Lee alloy one might be giving to much for the collet to bite, or so its been suggested.

im using hornady custom dies and dont have any problems with them
