Graeme ? who used to write in Rod and Rifle Magazine years ago

About 25-30 years ago there was a contributor to Rod and Rifle Magazine, I’m confident that his first name was Graeme .
    Anyway he was a bit of a .243 guy and he had a favourite 6mm bullet , I think it was a Hornady about 85gr - 87gr
Does anyone remember what exactly was that favoured bullet , was it a hpbt or soft point etc
    Any info would be appreciated.

    That didn’t take long
Cheers for that I’ll do a bit of research to see if they are still available.

I can photocopy the article and send it to you if you wish. Also have a few hundred 87 gn SP bullets stashed away.

He paved the way for the 243 to really enter main stream. However the 87gr Hornady lost serious ground to other pills notably the 85gr Sierra which rolled it. Graeme Sturgeon and Jim Warren showed how effective the 85gr Sierra was. Omlo made a magnificent contribution to hunting. Fav contributor in RnR. Brendan Coe would acknowledge that.

All the stuff I read of his quoted 87 grain spire point.
I was a 100 grain BTSP fanatic at the time (still am) and remember thinking 87 was to small.
In an article of Graeme Henry's I remember him saying he watched Omlo smash both shoulders of a bull Tahr with a 87 grain and stating "a 243 and 87 grain spire points in the hands of Graeme Omlo was definitely a big game cartridge".
As stug said they are very hard to find now.
I've been using 85 interbonds but Hornady seem to have discontinued them.
85 grain Speer hot cors shoot well but aren't as tough.

I got some quite a while back
They are marketed as a varmint projectile now even though historically they were for varmints and big game
#2440 I think is the hornady product code.
A quick look would suggest it is discontinued

The Hornady #2440, 87gn 6mm SP is what i load in my sons .243W. Its a good projectile for accuracy and results on the fallow we mostly chase. I also see it is no longer available.
