    hodgdon load data for .270 - h4350 (2209)

This one has been bugging me for a while hodgdon site supplies two lots of load data for a 130 grain projectile one is for hornady soft point the other is using barnes projectiles. The data for the hornady bullet has a max of 54.3 grains of 2209 where as the barnes data has a max charge of 55.0 grains so to play safe when I did my initial load testing for the 270 I stuck with the lower max charge weight now I am wondering if I should have tried to work up to that 55.0 grains. What gets my head scratching is why supply one max charge for bullet A and a lower one for bullet B. I am actually reconsidering redoing my load development but with sierra bullets which I scored a box of off trade me.

Due to differences in ogive position, bearing surface etc affecting peak pressure, at that given seating depth in that particular chamber that Hodgdon used to formulate that load data.

Ok that is fair enough and that part about the different ogive did not even come to mind so makes sense now.

You missed the fact Barnes are way different to a 130sp, drive bands reducing engraving allowing more powder to get pressure and more spreed. When working up a load I feel you have to find your max in your rifle with components your using.

You might have loaded up to book max for all you know your sitting right on the edge of pressure in your gun, hot day, damp day things get interesting

I wouldn't worry about it just work up with caution. Anything different you do different to Hodgdon will influence the out come. You might be able to safely exceed the maximum given load with your bullets seated longer, cases with larger capacity etc just work up and see where you get too.
