I got approx 700-800 out of my proof 6.5 prc before it wouldn't shoot atips well anymore, had revised dimensions reamer run into it which has cleaned up the forcing cone on the lands (which actually didn't look bad at all beforehand) but haven't shot again yet because enjoying the Bartlien I put on.
I don't doubt it would happily have shot another projectile happily for probably another 700rd but it wouldn't shoot that one.
    Tahr likes this.

Interesting, my 6.5SAUM (yes that one) I pulled the Shilen barrel at 1500ish rounds based on my "empty primer tray" record system still shot great but I wanted a longer heavier one. It was subsequently fitted to a mates hunting rifle, still shooting OK by all accounts and smoking NI deer.
Current Bartlein is at 1298 (my record keeping has improved) and not yet showing signs of being toasted. Velocity is still consistently 3126 for 147 ELD-Ms
I am wondering how much longer till barrel no 3
Tahr, veitnamcam and chainsaw like this.

Haven't listened to the whole series but what I've heard so far, they haven't actually quantified what they mean by cleaning. Cleaning down to the bare barrel steel? A quick carbon scrub? A full decarbon?

On the podcast they said that in ARs the typically longer/heavier Valkyrie bullets are seated further into the case, so the amount of powder is not much greater.

On the podcast, they seemed to be meaning a pretty serious de-carbon/de-copper clean at those intervals. They imply that more regular cleaning might improve barrel life, but I’m not sure they have enough data for that, or to say how much difference it might make (yet).
