Here is the answer I got from an email I sent 10 years ago.

The 60% rule is well known.

    The 75% rule little known.

The faster the burn rate the safer it is to reduce the load.

Hodgden site has 1150fps loads for 2206H that are as low as 30% IIRC

A bit more bang is better.

Let's buy a rifle chambered in a magnum cartridge and make it as light as possible, why is it so hard to shoot well?

    Yep IMO why not?
If your requirements change lighten the loads. Cheaper and easier than buying another rifle. And you still have the option of normal loads if the need arises.
Better than buying a 223, then load it flat chat because you don't have enough gun and wish you had a 243.

Really only 3 ways to lighten recoil.
    Less powder.
    Lighter bullet
    Heavier rifle.
    The rest is dreaming.

Agreed, but 1 & 2 are done more efficiently with a smaller cartridge vs. 'down-loading' a bigger one.

The subject of 'reduced loads' is also a perilous one.

Good technique and recoil control does not care about gender, so long as the rifle stock fits. Most of the old rifle stocks are designed for looks not performance.

    Greetings,
The difficulty of using the 60% rule in the 7mm SAUM is that Hodgdon does not list H4895/AR2206H in other than the lightest projectiles. 60% of I don't know is still I don't know.

Someone with GRT can confirm but around 48-50gr of 2206h with a 140 should be in the 50-60k psi range and 2800-2900 fps, 75-80% case fill

But it makes sense to just use a book listed starting load of 2208 and a 140, which would reduce recoil to a little bit more than a .260, about 2/3 the 162gr 7mm loads

My thoughts exactly. 50 grains of AR2208 in a 24 inch barrel is shown in the Hodgdon/ADI data as producing 2,945 fps at 56,000 PSI.
