Here's an article on primers from the NRA. It mentions the undesirable aspect of using primers more powerful than needed.

Here is an article on Large Rifle Primers compared by Laurie Holland.

Ultimate Large Rifle Primer Shoot-Out — 16 Types Tested « Daily Bulletin

Interestingly, one of the magnum primers in the test, Rem 9 1/2 Magnum, gave both the slowest Velocity and the Highest ES and SD.

I've been using f215 (magnum) on my larger calibers in the past, from 6.5 samu to 7mm rum. For the same load f215 usually gives you about 20-30fps speed increase (comparing to f210), but also cause pressure sign much quicker, so now days I don't use it. To me it is not worth the effort. I did read somewhere if you are hunting in extreme cold condition then magnum primer could be more reliable.

When I was using a 6.5 CM I had no end of trouble with ignition on small primer brass, and using ball powders. I switched to magnum primers and instantly the issue went away.
I now use Magnum primers in both small and large for anything that I stuff ball powder into.
