I’d never really thought about it I just put it down to bolt face so yes to me while the 6.5prc might be underwhelming it is a magnum “to me”
Originally the Magnum nomenclature primarily indicated that the cartridge wore a belt such as the 375 H&H Magnum and both the 308 and 358 Norma Magnums. All the Weatherby Magnum cartridges also sport a belt.
Of course there are always exceptions to the norm and the 222 Rem Magnum is a classic example. It doesn't have a belt and when compared to the 224 WM, 22-250 or the 220 Swift it certainly doesn't exhibit Magnum qualities.
Today we have multiple Magnum cartridges such as the WSM and WSSM that don't wear a belt and yet equal and in cases surpass the older belted counterparts.
Choice is always good!
