    Nosler 168 lrab feild report

I thought I would post my findings to date on this projectile as there is minimal information on the Internet about it and a lot of it is very conflicting.

I haven't previously used the Lrab and had a mate down for a hunting trip over the weekend and we shot 3 animals

Cartridge; 7mm saum with a MV of 2937fps. Shoots under 1/3 moa at 100 yards

First animal was shot in the base of the neck at 565 yards so not a great test but nice to know long range accuracy is good.

The second was another red hind at 300 yards and was shot behind the shoulder. Not a lot of resistance for the pill to expand, 2 inch exit hole. Hind ran 50 yards and collapsed.

The 3rd was this big bodied stag at 314 yards. Low shoulder shot. Didn't take a step, no exit hole and found the projectile on the inside of the skin, far shoulder Name: IMG_20210620_092014.jpg

It's fair to say I am very happy with the performance of this pill. I will add my findings for any further kills which may not be for a while as the freezer is chocka.

If anyone has their own experiences with the Lrabs I would be interested to hear.
    Cheers G

My only experience with them is in my .280AI. I use 150 LRABs at 3130. I've shot about eight to ten sika at ranges from 20yds to 565 yds, the latter being a full size stag. Most were across a valley that offers ranges 400-600yds. Two ran about 20yds after boiler room hits but the rest were leveled on the spot. I'd say about half exited. Overall, I'm quite happy with how they've gone.

Glad to see you are getting some good animals and having fun. Looks like it was a bit chilly!

To be fair though the report says more about shot placement than it does about the bullet’s terminal performance. That’s not meant as a criticism at all. Just that I would expect those outcomes with pretty much any hunting bullet with those POI.

How did you go getting them to shoot? Were they fussy and how much jump? I had a nightmare trying to get the 142s shooting in my 260 but once sorted I have been very impressed with their performance on game.

Funny enough I have had that box of projectiles for over 10 years and hadn't been able to get them to shot in any of my 7mms. I just lucked it, it took 12 rounds to sight in a newly mounted scope and to get them to shoot into one hole. 3 more shots to chrony and that was that.
I used the marker pen method to find the start of the lands. Will measure what the jump is for you later.

In Feb I took two mates for a hunt with the plan one of them would shoot his first deer. He did, using the other mates Kimber 7wsm 150 lrab @ 3250
spiker high behind shoulder at 100 mtrs. Pass through of course, but minimal meat loss which was a surprise at that range.
I have shot a lot of deer with a 2506 AI 110 AB and a few with a 270 140 AB. I have not lost an animal even with poor hits, but they often move from the hit and that is something to expect and get used to.

Using the 175 gr LRAB in my 7mm Mag at about 2900 fps. Shoots pretty good have shot two deer since loading them up both dead on the spot but the first was at about 200 yards and the bullet passed through and hit another deer behind it, found a bit of blood and tracked it to a creek then lost the blood. The other was at 266 yards passed through DRT.
The 162 gr ELD X shoot to the same POI at 200 yards and group a bit better.

Was using 150gr LRAB in a Sako Finnlight 270win for a while, real accurate and quick kills.

The 168 did the business again today. This time at a downward raking angle @80 yards. Ran 30 yards and expired, 2 inch exit.
Good to see them work at short range
