Which powder and projectile combination for the 300 wsm

Hey guys, Just got a tikka t3 300 wsm. Any suggestions on projectile choice and powders would be appreciated. It’s going to be a all rounder but I will run two loads, close range and a med to long. Planning to shoot out to around 800y. Been looking at the likes of the 178 eldx, 175 tmk, 168 vld, as the longer range projectile. Would go up to say the 208 eldm but I would like to mag feed them. Also what powders would you guys recommend, have heaps of 2225 2217 rl17 and rl22
    Cheers for your help guys

    I run 2209 in a couple 300wsms
Tikka with the 11 twist likes 178eldms

My savage also loves the 178eldm also the 190sierras

I run 200gr eldx with reloader 17 powder and a long action mag with a bit sanded out of the inside in my T3. Shoots bloody well

I’ve got a 21 inch tikka 300 wsm and use RL17. Tried all sort of loads with the 178 eldx, playing with seating depth and powder charge but couldn’t get a good tight group. Best I found was 62.9 gr of rl17 with a col of 2.855 which sends the 178 eldx at about 2890 fps and was getting about 3/4 - 1 moa.
Currently just running 180gr interlocks for now with 59.2 gr of rl17 with a col of 2.855, getting 2670 fps and getting 1/2 moa. Smashes sika in the bush but also good for the odd 500 yard shot.

Rel 17 and 178 ELD-X seems to be popular for the shorter barrel 300WSMs. No actual experience myself but some like @McNotty does.

RL26 is a good powder too....if you can find any.

I would just run a 195/200/208 load for everything.....personally i run the 215 berger @2760 and havnt had any issues with blow ups on close shots (closest was bout 30yds on a big red spiker) but im not sure they would stabilize in a tikka 11 twist. Prior to that i mostly used 208 amaxes with no issues either.

What rifle and scope do you run with these reloads? Out of curiosity

Mate use to run 62.9gr of rl17 in his 20" wsm with 178eldx pushing them pretty quick. Lethal as. Shot 165 sierra hpgk, 168 amax, 178 eldx and 168 Berger's into a 4 shot 3" group at 300m in front of me once. Unsure all those recipes

With bullets in the 168 gr to 200gr I have used powders such as 2209, IMR 7828, 2213 SC, Superformance, and RL 26. Should be able to get 2800 fps with 200 gr bullets, 180 gr 3000 fps (+- ) 168 gr 2900-3000fps + and 150 gr up to 3200 fps .

I wouldn’t use RE22 as it’s too temp sensitive. I used it in the past with .25-06, .30-06, .300 Win Mag, but moved on to less sensitive powders like 2217 and RE26.
