Be careful , with running AI reamers into std chamberings already machined in the barrel , as one gunsmith said its something hes asked alot to do , but something he him self will never do , as he feels as the front of the reamer is initially unsupported/guided that the chamber does not cut true , as the edge ( at the back of the case starts cutting before pliot has any guidance or alignment ) .
He feels the chamber does not get cut straight ,

Well I finally had a chance to have a play with my new 22-243, just to prove I haven't grown up either, hope I never do !!

It is a Kimber Longmaster VT 22-250 unfired, I sent it to Robbie @ Gunworks Canterbury to put his 22-243 reamer into it, he did a Kimber Provarmint for me years ago, unfired as well.
They have a 1-14 twist like most 22-250s so only really any good for the lighter pills
The VT has a 26" barrel & is looking like it will push the 53 Vmaxs a little quicker than my old one would have.
The 53 Vmax is quite new & has a high BC, .290 according to Hornady, I will check it soonish.
It looks like I will be able to push them @ 4050-4075 ish fps, I can go faster but it is a bit hard on brass....
But this post is about speed so here it is 30 grain Bergers at silly speeds

Thats probably enough pics, good times

Did you go out onto the range and pick up your rifling afterwards?

Could someone give me the low down on building a 22-243. If I had a stock standard 243 T3. Do I just need to get a fast twist barrel fitted i.e without any other chamber modification. Want to shoot 62gr Barnes. Dont want a long barrel and plan to put a suppressor on it. Cheers.

You need a 22 cal barrel in fast twist for the big, 69-90grain etc or slow twist for the 50 ish ones.
The Barnes will probably need a 1-8.
Talk to Robbie at Gunworks Canterbury he has built heaps of them.

My 223 test rigs put the 53vmax out at 3550-3600 ish & the 75-80 Amax out at 2950-3000 ish.

My 22 Terminator should put them out faster

Still waiting on reamers.........& waiting........& waiting...... I hate waiting........

That is why I do plenty R&D, to get deffinative results on improvements it costs plenty of $$$ & time though to do it properly.......

Haha, so maybe it isn't as efficient as I thought.

80% more powder for 10% more velocity. Its definitely far more efficient in the heavier pills though.

I suppose 8:1 is the normal ratio.

I was getting just over 4100 with the 53 vmax but it wouldn't work in the 1-14 twist......

It's about as far from "efficient" as you can get

Yup. Right along side of the 2506.

But I would still like to try a 22-243 with heavier bullets on deer.
