130 gn for deer is very effective. Mostly I've used Barnes TTSX 130 gn. Great results.

Something that slipped my mind was that I had shot some test loads in my .308 with the 125 grain Speer TNT projectiles a couple of years back. The test was to determine the relative speeds of powders I had shot with the same components at the same time. In a 20 inch barrel 47 grains of BM8208 chronographed 2,950 fps and the same load of AR2206H produced 2,900 fps. Both gave good accuracy (Sub MoA). At the same time I tested 47 grains of the now obsolete AR2206 which chronographed 2,940 fps. This showed that AR2206 is faster than AR2206H as I suspected and more like BM2 or BM8208,
This mornings Inbox yielded a flyer from loaddata.com with an article on Modern Varmint Loads for the 30-06. These were in the 100 to 115 grain projectile range and mostly used full power loads. Accuracy averaged in the 1.5 MoA range which suggests that 125 to 130 grains might be a sweet spot for light projectile loads in the .308 and .30-06.

While you talking about 308 -125gr,how would Sako 123gr sp go on deer?.Tika 308 22in barrel,should be flying at about 2880ft/s.Normaly i use Hornady Superformance150 or 165gr ssts which just smashes reds sholders n drops them.Thanks for yr time in answering Gpm.

a little more context would help get an accurate answer ? there's a big difference between knocking over a fallow at 200y-300y and a large red or Wap at 400Y


in reality you are working with a slightly improved 243 performance wise so it would probably preform similarly to a 243 maybe slightly better

Opps my edit was a bit late with extra data.Guess id have the odd walk away pass 250yds with 123gr.5 reds were downed pass 300yds last summer.

That has been my understanding for many years. Have read it many times, but have not tried 110gr myself. Same for 308. The 110gr are simply too short.
That's why my light load uses 130gr.
