I'd be Happy to support NZ business and I do in many many cases, However theres a growing number of local business people who think it's their right to provide appaling service and at the same time rip off their Customers, fellow New Zealanders.
These people I do not and will not ever support.

For example I recently imported a Multi Media Bluetooth Motorcycle Helmet from a US retailer. The cost including $100 shipping to my door was a tad over $600nzd. This helmet arrived 7 days after payment was made. Email communications were very good and they followed up a week after I recieved the goods to see if I was satisfied with them.

Before I ordered this equipment over the internet I had approached the local Suzuki Stealership with the full expectation I could purchase said goods locally through them as this equipment is avalible here in NZ already. After much prompting and me chasing them up for over two weeks they finally quoted me $1400nzd and a 6 to 8 week wait time.
The two things that made these retailers stand out from each other and played a big part in my decision of where I will spend my money was.
The US Retailer gave me very good service even though I never met them face to face and quoted a reasonable price and delivery time.
The local Suzuki Stealership gave me very poor service face to face and quoted an outrageous price and delivery time.
To me this was the "Big F*ck Off and Stop Waisting Our Time" quote.

So the US retailer not only won on price but also won hands down on Service even though he was half way around the globe and we'd never met. No brainer really.

Why am I buying more and more online?
    I get good service.
    The prices are good.
And I can save my self the greif of being dicked around by the local guys who just dont give a shit about their Customers!
And for me It's not just about saving a few bucks.

That said there are a few local guys who I always support and buy from for the same reason.
They always give me good service and good prices.
If all local guys had business models like this I would never buy online.
Sadly thats no longer the case here in NZ.

    Cheers
    Pete
Roger that but you forgot one thing Either a ph call or email or visit to the owner director or even MD of Suzuki Nz so there's feedback and possibly change ?? Good service and bad service must be reported because they have no idea otherwise. I tell my suppliers they ve done well and also when I think their operation is a shambles Works for me. I m not abusive though just the facts.

I hear what your saying Happy but disagree slightly.

I dont believe it's my place to improve someone elses business, unless of course they are willing to pay me for doing so.

However in this palrticular case I did provide some feed back, unfortunately for them they just weren't interested.

    BTW
I take my bike out of town to another Suzuki Dealership in the Wairarapa for servicing because of the appaling local service.
The bonus for me is It's a nice ride there and back

    Cheers
    Pete

I know our guys will charge more but how's what yr doing helping the country I get the guys who have invested here to bring the stuff in I know the prices cos I m good at research to but still give the locals a chance they absorb these risks . The penalty is you pay a bit more the reward is you build a relationship locally and get knowledge and don't suffer these problems. As I said point of contention let's all shop offshore then see what stays available here PS no personal attack intended just puttin it out
    there !!!
I buy most of my stuff from one gun shop in particular. I know all the guys there and they know me, and I even get to go and shoot with a couple of them. As a result I pretty much never have to pay ticket price for anything. If I see something cheaper elsewhere, I just say so and they'll match or beat it. but I'll still get it through them. That's part of supporting your local gun shop.

I however, won't pay $1000 for a scope I can get for $500, just to like the pockets of some local distributor and the gun store that'll be paying a lot less than the $500 I cough up.

I'll support NZ business to a point... but when they start having a laugh at some of the outrageous prices we get charged here, I'm sorry but no. I refuse to get knowingly ripped off.

And I bet you now have a nice little mark on your name now with customs... both here and there. Prepare to get a 'look' everytime you go through Pasport control
He'll prob get a visit from the Feds about 'illegal export of items of war' or something similar

I doubt whether your CC company will be any good - the transaction is legit, and if he can prove he has shipped it out, then he has done his part of a legal legit transaction
By US law, he needs an export permit and YOU have to provide an End User Cert
If they REALLY wanted to make a big deal out of it, technically you are as guilty as he is - ignorance isnt an excuse

Count yourself lucky its not Customs chasing you here.. I have an 'issue' that has been ongoing for over 18 months over bollox paperwork - the Lawyers bill is over 150x the value of the parts so far hahaha

Chalk it up as a lesson learned and move on I say

Some NZ retailers are cocks and sell low quality gear at full retard prices. I actually prefer buying stuff online now, I hate going into a shop and getting told na this is what you want. I don't give a fuck to hear anybodies opinion on what I want. Sucks that brass, bullets etc fall under ITAR.

You'd have just loved shopping at Reloaders when Ron Dent was still kicking. He'd hear you asking for somthing in the shop while he was out back in his office and suddenly you'd get this massive roar from behind the wall "WTF do you think you need that for???!!! You don't fuckin' need one of those, you need one of these...." By this time he's lumbered through to the shop and is pulling a Kimber 22-250 off the rack while you're sniffing around a Remmers 700 .223. He was such an obnoxious know-it-all, but did great deals.
10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.

I've found his buddy Scott just as bad. It's quite comical how wound up that guy can get.
