    Yep, a permit to procure. Then once bought you had to take the rifle back to the cop shop to get registered. Shotguns didn't need to be registered from memory.

    And a ‘permit to procure’ lasted for a month ( from memory) and you needed one to borrow a rifle (also from memory)

    I remember going and getting a permit to purcure shotgun with Dad...Ive still got the shottie some 40ish years later....

    I got a permit to procure once and went into register rifle and was told I was over the month.
    But the lazy bugger let me go when I said please give me another permit to procure and he couldn't be bothered writing another.

    I use a similar system with my bush rifle 200 yard zero, aim for the shoulder if i cant see the deer properly on 3.5 power i get closer.
