That's what I read many years ago to explain the Rigby chambering, but I can't seem to verify it. Does anyone else have insight into this?
Yes I've heard that explanation too. As for the cartridge itself....not that hugely different to the .270winchester

I know a fella who owned a rifle chambered in .264 magic. Never seen that on a cartridge box either lol.

I have an original box of Kynoch 32-20 ammo, jacketed soft flatpoints. Berdan primer. I look at them to shoot every now and then, will I, won't I, but havn't yet. Mainly because the brass is no use to me for reloading.. and they're kind of cute
I wish I still had that box, it was an unopened box of fifty that my father found in the back of some gunshop and sent it to me. I would like it just to have on display, since I am a .44/40 fiend. You can reload Berdan primed brass I found out years later, Chaz Forsyth told me how, something to do with using water pressure to push the primer out, but then I think you have to drill the primer pockets into one flashhole - but I have had no cause to explore it in practice.

Maybe pay more attention to that little bit of metal that comes out of the end of the barrel vs. what is stamped on the side of it?

The irony is Rigby rifles were assemblies of barreled actions and stocks supplied by Mauser.

Some years back a guy on the accurate reloading forum gave me a big sack full of loose 7x57 cartridges. He said the were Kynoch. I guessed they were, but wouldn’t swear to it. They are stamped with K58 and 7mm on the head. A couple of years ago when we were practicing shooting from the sticks before an African hunt, we shot a bunch of them in a Mauser 7x57 sporter of mine.

They shot very well, no misfires in spite of their age. They were berdan primed..so not reloadable by me. I assumed they were corrosive and cleaned my rifle accordingly. I still have a bunch of them in that bag. They were very accurate in my rifle.
