    Short action 284win

Hi, mag length on my 284 is 3.100. Thinking about loading 150gr eld x. Currently using 140gr sst for OAL of 2.940 seated at cannalure. If I seat the same amount of x bullet in then OAL would be 1.063.
Would this give enough room for mag feed?
Also I could seat deeper without compression as using 760 powder.
    Appreciate your thoughts.

Idea would be to assemble some inert dummy rounds to the length you want and try them, alter length to get a correct feed if you have to. Then check the favoured length against your true COAL on your chamber to see how much jump you have.

Yeah, sounds good. Does anyone mind sending me a projectile to dummy up with?

Don’t get too hung up on distance to the lands - if it works at mag length then take yes as answer - definitely worth trying before single loading. One of my rifles is a fraction better seated longer than mag length, but certainly not enough to worry about under field conditions, so mag length it is...

Yeah, that's what I figure as well. I'm not a good enough shot to benefit from tweaking loads too much at any rate.

I've decided to go the 150 eldx for my saum so will be interested in how you go with yours in .284, speed will probably be pretty close.

Yeah, I don't have a chroni but probably be a bit over 2900 and maybe up to 3000. Plan to validate loads in Rotorua next month.

Oh, this sounds nice. What barrel length are you running?

22inch. Data shows 2968 at 45600cup with 53.5gr of 760. Presumably from a 24inch barrel. If I carefully sneak another grain or do in would see close to 3000 though if something more moderate shoots well then ill leave it

Don't count on 'data' for accurate speeds, just saying
