    Spray painting boolits

Has anyone tried spray painting boolits instead of power coatings? I've read a couple of the American forums but they seem to use spray paints we don't get here in NZ.

Then how would you see what they hit?

What's the reason for painting them? What does that do to your bore?

Tried that. Found powder coating the perfect solution. Use powder coating on virtually all projectiles now from subsonic to about 2000fps using cast. 308 projectiles powder coated fit 303 and 7.62x39 perfectly.

It's to do with avoiding lead fouling.

Some also shake up boolits with some epoxy thinned a bit with acetone and it seems to do the same trick as powder coating.

"The" test is to hit the coated boolit with a hammer, if the coating survives the squash without detaching then you're good to go.

Suppose you could add graphite to the epoxy if you are really keen.

Powder coating is done easily enough with the shake n bake method.
Make sure you use TGIC powder.

Looks cool. Can't find any info on how its done for cast bullets only jacketed bullets, probably some process. Would moly coated cast bullets need gas checks?

Look online there is a truck load of info.

Google “can i moly coat lead projectiles” try additional wild card, say “review”

Wrong application, moly works greater with pressure, lead unjacketed is a different beast

I use a spray on graphite on lead bullets and a wad cut from an ice cream container lid in the 45/70 and 375 Big Bore with no leading.

Interesting, i stand corrected, however i had a considerable amount of leading and fouling when i briefly ventured that road, i shall speak no more
