Interesting, standard barrel lengths are 510 and 400, was it chopped previously?
So the cci subs had higher velocity out of the shorter barrel eh?
Greetings All,
Old tests on .22 RF velocities v barrel length suggested that about 16 inches was optimum. The tests did not include the modern hyper velocity cartridges. Interesting that Eley and CCI, both standard velocity, got different results.
Regards Grandpamac.
Yes short 22's are handy, I'm after a 12.5in Ruger barrel if any one is selling a good brand ?
Interesting to see what the groups are like at 100m
Group size would be interesting. I have thought about a short barrel 22 myself and wondered what the overall effect would be. Logic dictates that as long as all the powder has burned before the round leaves the barrel then speed should not be overly effected but you can't really know where that point is without cutting it down and testing. I am also curious to know how it effects spin for stability , if at all , out of the shorter barrel as I would think that would affect accuracy quite a bit .

I am stuck between a $500 12.5” and a $150 ruger +$75 chop to length. I used to shoot 22lr from 10.5” and 16” 223 barrels.@100m groups are the same.
55Six have some (assuming you mean 10/22?) https://55six.co.nz/parts/barrels/10-22-barrels/
I've got a stainless spare 10/22 barrel if anyone wants it to chop 100 bux or best offer message me
