Thread: Targex 130 grain 30 cal for deer

Has anyone used the Targex 130 grain 30 cal on Deer? I use the Speer 130 HP in my 308, but just noticed I'm nearly out and am heading away for 4 days on Sunday.....

I had a quick check of the bench and found 15 Targex - so I'll have enough to get a zero check and 5 for hunting. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has used them on deer.

To be fair I was considering Changing from 168gn eldm to 178gn eldm in the 308win but after seeing the way the 168gn absolutely sacked this spiker at 400yds I see no reason to change, absolutely smoked him.

Nah run 178gn eldms in to AI at 2816fps the 168gn eldm's are in the 308 at 2622fps, I haven't taken any animals with the AI but the 308 was absolutely brutal on the red spiker I shot this morning whilst not destroying too much meat with a well placed shot.

I did a box of 168m in my 308 and couldn't the dam things to shoot, someone mentioned push them but that didn't work, yours is quite a moderate load, may have to revisit it.
I have 178edlx shooting really well at 2580 44g 2208 max mag lenght, haven't shot anything with them but get varing reports.
Have used 125 prohunters work well to moderate range, also 130 hp speers they really do blow up at full speed, say the 130g targex would be simular at medium distance to 300ish slowing they would preform quite well, keep away from heavy bones.

I literally loaded them to saami spec and found a load with the first 12 rounds I loaded from charge ladder, it's good out to 600ish yards I reckon. Certainly slam dunked the spiker at 400y he dropped like a sack of spuds never looked like taking a step post hit.

Just got a rude shock price of projectiles haven't bought any in couple years. Another fav is the speer btsp 165 shoot well and are still a reasonable price. Annoyed me as don't shoot as well as eldx at 100m was going to flick them, but they don't shoot any worse at 200 so they are my first up round, load the eldx for the longer range stuff.
