    terminal ascent projectiles

doing some homework for a future project.
these are a reincarnation of the edge which was an incarnation of the trophy bonded tip which was an incarnation of the trophy bonded bear claw.
Think I have that right? I'll stand corrected if I haven't.
looking at using them in a 264 win mag. Seem to be a good compromise for speed v weight v retained hitting power a long way out. Like a partition but a little lighter so can go a little faster/flatter. no point having a 264wm if it is going as fast as a 6.5x55
What sort of load data do you start with as there doesn't seem to be much about?
Barnes solid coppers? they wouldn't be tougher/harder than them so would have less pressure yeah?
    anyone have anything definitive?

I had to go look em up, I've got the latest Speer 15 load manual, bought yesterday, nothing in it for 130gr data, don't know who is making these for federal.
I would likely cross reference, the Barns 130gr and Nosler 130 Accubond/129 LRAB data, and work up.
I am running 130 AB in my .264 win, seam to work well enough, 3100 all I'm doing for speed, but I need to rework, with a slower burn powder, was a powder shortage at the time I did load work,
Mate's been using the heavy's in his 6.506, 160g Hornardy, seen the bullet he recovered, after a bull moose,(2019), shot twice threw the shoulders, caught on offside skin, 300m shot, bloody impressive penetration.
let us know how you make out. and what speeds you getting,

@300_BLK 130gr they are using them in factory loaded 6.5 CM (Be way cooler in a 264 win mag lol) and also the 6.5PRC
some of the blurb suggests that they are a little longer due to having a shit ton of copper in there with only a little lead so they are like Barnes in that respect ie lighter
but with the lead to help it mushroom a lot better when it gets out there.
Gets good write-ups for the 300 cals. reports are that it isn't an ultimate tack driver although still fine but with a new tip and the lead it still mushrooms whilst having the solid rear to carry on through. See below a test done in Africa with a 200gr out of a 300 win mag the guy set up to try them out.
I will say the ones from a long way out look odd but they still kept weight, mushroomed and did the job. you can certainly see the difference from the one used at 500 odd yards and the ones from 900ish
Link to article at the bottom for reference

So you have some to test and you need 264 WM data for 120 gmx and or 130gr?

    I have both,

I’ll refer to the little red book of truth (handload data) this evening mate and get back to ya?

Interesting to see how they go. I don’t think you can compare 200 grain projectile performance on large game with the 130s you intend to use on (presumably) smaller game.

Your 130s May start off faster but will retain less energy at long range than the 200s. I also don’t think you want weight retention at long range and low retained energy/velocity.

At closer ranges they look great, but a fragmenting projectile like an ELD-M would be better at 600+ metres.

Anyway, let us know how it goes (and perhaps prove me wrong).

    Cheers

@BLK_300 nope-have neither nor the gun yet. Long term research @Spitfire not interested in the long way out stuff. 500m for me is miles. If it does what it says in that range I'd be very happy. there isn't much out there for the 264 so have to use what ever info I can to make a judgement call
Just remember this is in a 264 bore not a 300.
One of the better projectiles in these lately is meant to be the 129gr Barnes TSX's and equivalent. The lighter speed really flattens the trajectory out on these but with the possible expectation that at the longer ranges when they slow down, to lose some mushrooming.
Having a lead tip and an operational speed down to 1400 fps it looks like it will still mushroom effectively

@300_BLK I'll keep you in mind if this ever gets off the ground.
    That sound great.
One of the best go-to projectiles for these was meant to be the 140gr partition. BUT to make it worth while it should really be nudging past 3100fps to get the best out of the 264wm put to 400m.
    Thoughts after real world experience?

    @csmiffy Real world experience = 140 SST / 143 ELD-X @ 3250 kills everything to 600m

I wouldn't bother with the latest X projectile that is expensive and might not shoot unless I was getting some free to try first.

These ones look very hard for NZ Game.

If you want a flat shooting hard hitter to 400m try the 120 GMX @ 3450fps
