Yep same, mag length seems to work for me in a Tikka T3.
Yep same, mag length seems to work for me in a Tikka T3.
Yeah we don’t have a mag length issue lol this is touching the lans at 3.516” in the r700 I was very surprised at how much room it had
Looking at my notes my COAL is 83.5 mm which fits the T3 mag with a fraction to spare. Mod 700 LA have quite good mag lengths.
84mm for me that’s the first length I tried and it worked . roughly the same length as the Hornady precision hunter ammo .
Anyone shooting these in rem700 ? Shot these loads that Rambo is playing with today to 1.5inch and pressure at 57.5.
Perhaps they don’t like being seated out long? Keen to hear COAL for any rem700 shooters
Have some loaded up with RL-26 for my 700. Waiting for a range to open!
Been playing around with these in last week, factory 145 ELDX ridiculously accurate out of a Tikka T3x 22inch. 0.3" group, they only doing around 2820fps though with a low E.S off a labrador.
This is probably similar load node I'm guessing with the 55.5 Superperformance above.
57gr S.P, Rem Brass, C.C.I Primer giving me around 3040-3050 fps. Oceania Suppressor, dropped back to 56.9 group better, think node for rifle might be a point or two below this.
If can get the factory ammo group with bit more speed will be handy.
COL as long as possible, 84.5mm as the factory ammo, haven't even measured lands as not really much point end of mag length
Rambo working his magic has the groups down to .53.
Load is starting to get good. 2850 for 18inch 270 is brilliant.
270, the ultimate caliber, who’d have thought.
Laddered to 57.5 last week with 140 accubonds and Superformance in a rush for the weekend, never loaded either before. 57 gr produced 2900+ with no visible pressure just a slight increase in bolt lift weight.
From what I have read and can see, I think 60 gr should be ok. Considering that 60 gr of IMR 4831 was the go -too with 130 grn pills and it is a faster powder.
Not wanting to highjack the thread, but what distance from the lands is working for the AB's ? I seated at 40 thou and when I compared these loads to factory stuff with the comparator they were plus another 300 thousandths more jump !!
I watched a very good load development vid on YT using RL26 in 270. Didn't work well. No normal pressure signs, great velocity but buggered primer pockets, even at starting loads. Statement was made " This is a very unusual powder, I have never seen a powder behave like this before"
There was only a 7fps velocity difference between 22 and 24 inch barrels
Moa, Interesting feedback. I’ve read some very good results with R26, in the .270 Win similar to SP. got 3 lbs so a bit committed to making it work. More to come .......
I don’t shoot light rifles well @Freezer ‘s 270 is only 3.5 kg
I don’t own a rifle under 5 kg
So im sure if he or someone else was shooting the rifle the results would be even better just putting that out before I post this
So I loaded from 56.5-58.5 in .5 increments in federal brass with federal 210m primers at 3.500 oal 0.015 off lans in his rem700
Freezer shot them on Sunday and ran into some very heavy pressure signs at 57.5-58gn
He left the rifle with me on Sunday and looking at the brass No pressure at 57gn
So I decided to play a bit with overall length and primer selection
So I loaded up 6 rounds with 57gn superformice and federal 210 3 at 3.29” (tikka mag length) and 3 at 3.394 just a halfway point between that tikka length and the 3.500 originally tryed
I also loaded 9 rounds with 57gn of superformince but with federal 215 magnum primers 3x 3.29” 3x 3.394” and the previously tryed 3.500
Interesting results
So the 2 3 shot groups at 3.29 with both magnum and standard primers both shot shit 1.5-2 inch groups for both
Next i shot the 2 3 shot groups at 3.394
The standard primers shot this 0.84” group
The magnum primers were looking bloody good till I pulled the last shot
Then finally i shot the 3 shots at the original 3.500 with magnum primers
And to my Surprise it did this
*the other hole is from my mates 223
No pressure signs with any of them Except some light primer Cratering
But this rifle does that with factory ammunition so I dismissed that as signs of pressure
I definitely want to switch to the 215’s they seem to go better in this rifle
I want to also try that 3.394 oal again as well as the 3.500
Next range session I will get freezer to shoot as i fell that these loads would of done even better with someone used to a light rifle
A .8 and a .5 is Excellent shooting for mee with a 3.5kg rifle
So pretty confident its almost there a bit more tweeking

Here are targets from the other day, 1" squares.
I'm going to load up at least 5 each 56.6 to 56.9, SP. Yip Rambo shooting lightweight rifles precision getting used to as well, recoil fine just getting consistent recoil pattern back to sight picture. Other thing is barrel heating up on the skinny barrels to be aware of but shooting a decent size verification group.
Good to have the factory loads as a verification for rifle accuracy, but just not going fast enough for me for the .270.
