    Transiting through Australia with Projectiles

    Hi,

Has anyone had any experience bringing in projectiles from overseas trips? I'm bound for South Africa soon and figured with the shortage of 6.5mm projectiles in NZ, that I would buy a couple of boxes and bring them back in my check-in luggage.

I can't for the life of me find any relevant information about transiting through Sydney airport with projectiles.

I am looking forward to comments... can you actually bring projectiles and brass into NZ or out of Australia in your luggage?

I brought back a box of 178 eldx from oz 5 years ago,no problems.I bought them at "The Outpost" in Gladstone, carted them right round Australia.found out when I got home they were cheaper at gunworks including postage.

Real guns start with the number 3 or bigger and make two holes, one in and one out

Yeah I emailed the cops about 2 months ago about projectiles in checked luggage.
Their reply is that no permit is required for projectiles.
    Didn't ask about brass.

Wrt the OP, simply don't know about aussie but if you are transiting and do not collect your luggage it shouldn't be a problem

We are off to Canada in September and I will pick up some projectiles and brass if it's not to dear. I spoke to our local Arms Officer and a permit for projectiles and brass is not required, not sure on the Aussie side of things. I got an email from our Arms Officer so I can carry printed copies just in case customs have a problem with it, one copy for the checked luggage the other goes with me.

It's only the "leaving Oz" bit that needs consideration. I'm also pondering the issue as I may well be in transit back to NZ through Aussie.

The only transit place I know where it could be a problem is Singapore. Aussie, no problem but beware of ignorant and officious customs/security staff who may 'try it on'.

I've of heard people needing an import permit and agent to import cases to Australia.

I'm not up with what you are asking but they are easily posted across Australia, I don't think they are classed as ammo as such so really they might be just an item in your luggage .
I think a commercial quantity might raise import issues though. Forget that, you won't find much in large quantities here either.

I think A couple of packets would be ok. I did consider though if I were travelling can I take cases or projectiles to a friend.

I asked him to get them for me. Aussi border people wouldn't let him have them in his luggage.
