1 in 13 or 1 in 12.6 seems to be the "norm" for palma type shooting with a 155gr bullet.

Yep but very limiting for a combination rifle for hunting & target work.

Not sure if any use, but I currently shoot 155 Amax & 150 Core lokt out of my .308 Howa. Both pushed by 45gn 2208. Not the fastest load in town but can hit A4 out 600m no worries. Zeroed at 100m, same POI.
Core lokt good for hunting, point and shoot out to 200m. Amax for target practice out to 750 so far, dials on scope limit me to this as not enough elevation.... Probably running out of legs anyway!

The 144gr (? Dyer) works fine in my 1:14 barrel from 300yds to 700 yds

Only start getting issues around 800 and above, as they get closer to transsonic speed.

    How is the action bedded,
How solid is the action with that barrel hanging out the end.
Was the barrel sent to you from true flight then fitted by hardy ?

If that gun ante shooting 1/2 at 100 with a factory load take it back to who ever sold it to you

but what range hunting with a 308W? 600m+?

Besides which you use 1 pill for target and another for hunting.

If you want to use 178-208 to shoot animals/targets at a decent range with a 308 you can't with a 13 twist a 10-11 is a much better choice for the 30 cal.

Buy a box of Federal gold medal match it's loaded with 168gr Sierra Match Kings and try that for accuracy it is what is used for accuracy
testing by a lot of target rifle builders, it will stabilize in 14" twist barrels, you could have a problem with your reloading gear,
a load I use to test .308's is 43.6 grs of 2206H with 155 Sierra's it is quite mild but very accurate I shoot it in 3 rifles it will shoot 1/2"
in 2 of them and 3/4" in the other bullet is seated at 2.80",
If your rifle still doesn't shoot it could have a problem.

I didn't exactly want the slower twist rate. There was a mix up somehow between what I asked for and what was built. I had originally assumed that I was getting a Krieger barrel with 1 in 10 twist with the intention of shooting 168gr pills only but I ended up with the tru-flite 1 in 13 barrel. It doesn't worry me to much because I know I will get it shooting eventually. I found something quite bad a few days ago after talking to someone about tilt scales. I am still rather green when it comes to reloading but am learning quickly, I found that my tilt scales had a piece of ducttape stuck on one end to make them level properly(I bought the scales second hand) this actually meant that the scales stuck quite badly around level. I bought some digital scales and weighed my loads and the results were a little shocking, up to 2.6gr light sometimes. I have also seated bullets right off the lands as I have a 223 that likes bullets way off the lands. I went back to 2.15 from 2.22(comparator measurements) The result after these two changes meant my first test load of 43gr 2206h and the new seating depth was 0.75 inches but it put the second and third through the same hole. I am going to retest the exact same load but with 5 rounds instead of 3 because I suspect the first one may have just been due to a cold and unfowled barrel.
I am still looking for some load ideas for 150gr TTSX and accubonds if anyone has any loads for these.

    Who built it?

I would be taking that shit back and demanding the gunsmith supplied what was asked for, and I assume, paid for?.

There's a world of difference between a trueflight and a krieger. In my personal opinion TF's are gigantic pieces of shit!!!

The trouble is that he claims the quote had a truflite barrel and I cant find my copy of the quote so I cant prove it had a different barrel on it. I paid for a truflite but assumed I was paying for a Krieger. After it took around 10 months to build and cost quite a bit I don't really fancy sending it back. If I can make it work as is then I wont mind so much.

does your opinion apply to all grades of barrels they make ?

For "gigantic pieces of shit" a surprising number of target shooters seem to prefer the UM barrels if you care to look at whats on display at NRA competitions

Hope you come right crash, does not sound like a happy story...
