    Wellington Members Reloading Party

Righto - who is keen for a reloading party?

I have heard a few murmers since I've been on the forum about noobs to reloading wanting to learn a few things and also our great experts keen to teach some new friends their tricks and share experiences! I am assuming that I am the noobist of the lot, basically I am still getting very lost in the lingo. BUT I have some great mates on here who have helped me out so far and I'm ready to make some loads.

Obviously members welcome and we will also need a host. Please express your interest to attend, host, or provide gear. Also a rough date that might suit you would be appreciated. To get the most people on board I am hoping to have a date sorted 4-6weeks from now at the absolute latest. My experiene has been that even with a long turn around, 50% of the people still pike out anyway so I am keen to get some sh*t made and meet some more people who can share their brain with me and others!

don't be one of those pikers!

PS Mods if you could please tidy this thread it would be much appreciated, makes it a bit easier for me to select a time/day and who can provide what. Thank you in advanced.

    Let's get reloading, Wellington!

I was pondering something sort of similar. At some stage I will need / want to do some load development for 308 FTR. So I was thinking I'd join Deerstalkers Upper Hutt and spend some days up there on the range with a reloading kit, loading and firing different loads and see what happens / what I can learn. Maybe if some others (ebf?) would want to come along and we'd experiment with loads to see what we could learn and have some fun setting up our guns. Im some months away from that doing that though, probably in the spring at the rate Im going.

Id be keen to come along, for a chat and learn a few things . I reload myself but not a noob nor highly experienced. After the roar is probably your best bet.

I'm probably in the same category as scoped. Reasonably experienced reloader, but not an expert by any means. Could well be keen to come along, depending on the usual things (work, family etc).

For those starting out here is a checklist that I did up when i taught a couple of mates.

    Reloading Process Checklist

    • Inspect Brass- cracks, case head rings, bulges, same brand, right caliber, (discard)
    • Clean Brass if required- steel wool & meths, brush inside neck, (I just give the necks a clean with steel wool & run a nylon brush thru the neck)
    • Lube Brass (lightly)
    • Resize & Deprime (either Full Length or neck size)
    • Clean lube off (chux cloth/handy towel)
    • Clean up primer pocket (small bladed screw driver will do)
    • Check case length- trim if req’d
    • Chamfer/Deburr neck
    • Prime (firm crush, primer shouldn’t sit proud of pocket)
    • Charge with powder- weigh each load
    • Seat bullet- check OAL

    Wear safety glass’s while priming
Double check you are using the correct powder!
Don't reload when your tired, distracted or rushed (do it somewhere quite)
    Keep good records

Im planning to buy the Lee 50th kit to start with (or the Lee classic turret press), incl stand....what I'd quite like is to have a collection of kit to hand and the ppl who use them...so we can discuss the good and bad points of the different hardware, maybe end up with an ideal shopping list, maybe price that up with what was bought where to get the best price and put it on the forum.
