Right from the start I intended to make an overgrown subsonic .22 so fast lead hollow points really are my ultimate projectile
At the moment I can stack ballistic tips at 25m but when I dig them out of the ground they look ready to load back up again
The standard jacketed bullets need an impact velocity of 1800 fps to expand the only jacketed bullets that will expand are the special subsonic ones
coming out now but they are very expensive, The cast bullet has been killing things since the 1850s no reason why they won't work now.
I have gear for expanding subsonic jacketed bullet manufacturing in 30 and 44 + a lot of other tooling and components.
If anyone is interested in purchasing it I’d take $7k ono for the lot as simply don’t have time to use with other commitments. $20k+ to buy new with a 2yr wait.

Have you got a photo of the new 200g pills Robert?i might be keen on some.
Yea mate they just arrived
I only have 4 primers left so I need to wait till next week for them to arrive
They look like perfection for a subsonic projectile, the ballistic tips I'm using at the moment look like I can re use them when I dig them out
I haven’t read this entire thread so maybe above
If you are shooting cast bullets you need to make sure they are oversized for the bore
309 or 310 in this case
It could be twist rate related for sure also
Gaschecks on bullets although they shouldn’t affect functionality at subsonic speeds they are not required for slower load a flat base lead bullet should be just fine unless you’re going to load the same bullet supersonic and can’t be bothered with 2 bullets
Just looked at your recovered bullet photos, thats quite solid rifling engraving with a bit of metal scraped into in the boat tail. With a cast bullet which is larger you could be getting tails of metal off the bullet that upset the aerodynamics. Just anothet thing to consider.
At subsonic velocity the range the bullets are used at 150 metres or less I don't think aerodynamics will be a problem, From what I have seen the lead scraped
from the bullet ends up in the lube grooves and the gap in front of the gas-check
If I can push 60m reliably with a sub load I'll be happy
Just like my .22lr but bigger
At the moment with ballistic tips it's brain shots only @ 20m or less
You have a lot to learn. I recommend that you read the stickies on castboolits.gunloads.com .There is several years of reading there ,in particular look up the posts of Larry Gibson and rpm threshold. I shoot a 200 and 220grain boolit subsonic to 100 m with a 1.5/2.0 inch group (mostly) 1:10 twist powder coated or lubed with Bens Red (lithium based lube) .so it can be done and is a lot of fun.

Too slow a twist for that bullet. Need a faster twist, more MV or lighter bullet. No shortcuts are going to fix it.
Try 10 grains of trail boss. On the flip side a tumbling projectile is still going to kill. Expect to go for head and neck shots inside 100 yards, anything outside of this use a a standard load.
