I am just in the process of sorting some reloading gear for myself and i know it is going to cost me more and it is going to be addictive but i know i will get a lot of satisfaction from shooting my own loads. Accuracy from my loads and shooting more is the main reason why i want to reload but the main reason is bloody good fun!!!! Cant wait.

    +1 says it all really.

I barely have any factory calibres & some of the ones I have had would make you cry buying factory ammo for them.

The accuracy & consistency that is achievable with knowledge, patience & experience is incredible

Cause for the 243 it was cheaper and you can't buy 260ai of the shelf.and what VC said

Custom stuff tailored to specific requirements.

    For F/TR I've just switched to a 2206H load that gives me better stability @ 900 & 1000 yds.

For hunting, I can load specific projectile & powder combinations for general hunting, varmint, sub-sonic etc.

My goals are consistency, so +/- 0.001 on resizing & trimming, and +/- 0.002 on CBTO measurements of loaded rounds. For powder consistency I try to get things down to below SD of 10.0 fps.

Accuracy plus cost for the toy/deer guns.

.223 by necessity. Sounds like the Dillion is going to be back in action in the next week or two for two reasons, off the shelf 223 is drying up again and the price point on what is around is silly.
Many years ago I used to help a mate with his reloading which was more commercial. 10,000 rounds of 308 at a time for the choppers, all through a single stage press LMFAO Used to have all kinds of problem rifles turn up and we'd spend a lot of time sorting loads, I learned a lot and really enjoyed it. But now it's just another job to be done.

I want to be able to reach right out to the full potential of my rifle. Reloading is a big part of that. The good off the shelf Lapua ammo comes in one make only - SLOW.

Started off on 9mm reloads simply due to cost. Traded in a rifle for a Dillon square deal so no extra $ outlay, so just had to buy components and I make @200 per session.

The more I reload the more I shoot

Moved onto 223 for shits n giggles just trying to get more accurate rounds for longer range rabbits and better scores at 200m for silhouette shooting. Not really expecting to save money as such with the 223 reloads due to all the bits I've needed to buy after breaking/learning lol.

That is defiantly a great reason The other is the enjoyment of reducing the size of my groups due to work and experimenting I did. Enjoy reloading for mates too as all they really need is a set of dies, bring them to the cave and we are away.

Dad got me into it so that was great learning from him and now time at the range both developing loads is good fun (He still gets far better groups)

It does take a while to start saving money after the initial outlay for gear.

I do it so I could shoot more for less & for accuracy. Its enjoyable too with the right gear.
Some ammo is just not available. 38 Super comp for IPSC is not off the shelf ammo.
    I reload 38 Super, 223, 243, 2506, 308, 7.62x54R, 303. Will start reloading shot gun soon too.
Use to be able to get cheap military ammo in the old days. I have a few cases tucked away still thankfully so don't need to reload for the AK just yet. I remember paying $195 for a case (1440 rounds) of 7.62x39.
Wish I bought more at the time.

If you start out reloading thinking you could save a dollar, you eventually discover it doesn't work out that way, I reload to match projectile and velocity to the required tasking, and if you like non mainsteam cartridges it is the only way to get what you want.

And at the end of the day the tinkering itself is a good enough reason, getting a great result is just the icing on the cake, when I find that perfect load...........god help me, I just start looking for another way to invent the same wheel!

cost definitely comes into it if you shoot a lot, if your just a joe average hunter with a 7mm08 then it most probably will be cheaper to buy ammo. The added performance, accuracy and speed wise is a major reason for reloading. Different projectiles also is great

Technically interesting, I find it relaxing and for shooting ranges high accuracy. I also load each 308w round for around 90cents, I cant get competition ammo at anywhere near that cost, probably cost me $2 each or even more.

So I load 350 rounds, using 1kg of ADI 2208 so I dont store any powder, ditto 303, Im then set for 3 months or so.

My reloading kit is around $1k, should pay for itself in under 2 seasons.
