What's your fav 243 bullet for deer?

What's your favorite bullet in your 243?

I see some use 85g Barnes, others 87g hornadys, others prob refuse to run less than 100g.

What do you use, what's your max range for them.

I've just acquired a nice older wood/blue model 7 that I'll develop a load for and gift to my father. Deer from point blank to 300 yds.

Agreed, I spent about 15 yrs chasing fallow in the bluies, lost count of the number that went down to the 100gn GK, all inside 100 yds though, lots of big goats on the east coast and the odd Tahr that don't remember meeting a 100 gn GK.

I'm using the 85 grn inter bonds at the moment, and they appear to work well on deer.

Back in the day I used to use the 75 grain X bullet, man they were awesome, going a squillion miles an hour, real flat for general purpose hunting.

The Hornady 87SP were extremely accurate but a bit soft for Red Deer, at the velocity they were going, marvellous for goats

The 85 Sierra Game king was pretty good, a little harder than the 87 Hornady.

Going to try the 85 TTSX shortly will be interesting

Hornady 87gr SP doing around 2900fps in my BRNO Zkk 601 was deadly.

Have taken Deer (Reds & Sika), Pigs, Goats, Hares, Rabbits and the odd Magpie with this projectile.

The Hornady 100gr SP went well too, but the 87gr was better.

As always shot placement is critical for a clean kill on Deer and Pigs.

It's been 15 years and I still kick myself for selling that rifle.

    Cheers
    Pete

I just use any old winchester or federal factory bombs, go through stacks of it. they kill bloody well. should reload to make it cheaper but owell. shot 3 fallow today and a 130kg red stag on friday evening without a worry. ill usually only shoot to 300ish with it though

95 Bergers driven at 3040fps have been great on reds and fallow out to 400m.

Ive never struck a bad .243 bullet. All of the above, plus 95 grn Targex. 80 grn Speer too.

I use 85 grn Interbonds now a days. They are good for 400 yards and devastating. I've shot Tahr over that with the 95 grn Targex (pretty much the same as the 95grn Berger - same jacket). But please don't stretch the .243 over 300 yards unless you have the experience and knowledge to ensure a humane kill.
