Who is using a crimping die?

    Hi all
Just reading a little bit about crimping dies where the manufacturers claim it helps reduce velocity variation and improve accuracy. Keen to know the real world reality of carrying out this step with seating. Looking forward to your views.

If you want to improve neck tension consistency (which is what the crimp would be doing) then a a bushing die, mandrel combo is a much better way of doing it.
Or use a Lee collet neck die for a cheaper/easier alternative.

Outside of pistol and semi auto, virtually no one crimps any more.
You could easily give it a try if so inclined if you already have a crimp die, but I won't go out and buy one just to try it.

I crimp my .375 lever gun....I don't suppose too many semi auto centre fires around these days.

Are you currently experiencing difficulties hitting things due to poor velocity consistency or precision?

I crimp my minute of deer ammo (usually soft points) in 223, 308 & 300 blk but won't crimp my longer range/precision ammo. Found I sent to knock them around more so I keep crimping them, but there probably isn't any science behind why I do it.

    Hi all
Thanks for the replies and thoughts. I am not having any issues with my ammo but are always on the lookout for ways to improve what I do reload. I am looking to get into some long-range gong shooting for fun and if needed I might try crimping if it was shown to be beneficial. I have always found the improvement comes from reducing the sum of the variables rather than a single input (unless you are doing something catastrophically wrong). Again, thanks for your thoughts and knowledge.
    Cheers
