Winchester Deer Season .223 - any experience?

    Fellas

I got given a bunch of these loose in a bag. Does anyone have firsthand experience of their performance on deer? Not a popular topic for some, being .223, but lets not go there.

    Thanks
Haven't used the extreme point but had success with the Winchester 64gr power point.

This fallow was taken at 175m through the heart/lungs took less than 10 seconds to expire.

Taken with Howa 223 rem 1/9 twist 20" barrel at chronied 2890 fps.

Sorry can't post pic have done before so don't know what's going on.

For what it's worth my 243 deer season extreme point just blew up on the fallows front shoulder. Didn't penetrate at all.

Would work for goats I reckon.

Down the bottom of this discussion is a comment and pic on the .223 Deer Season ammo.

the hype on it seems to say they have tried to get the preformance they used to get with old school silvertips.... which some love and others hate...almost a varmit projectile in .223 I wouldve thought..... from the few deer Ive shot with the .223 getting fast expansion would be the last thing I wanted....maybe for roe deer sized animals a yearling fallow maybe but not a large red.

Shot a couple of deer with that ammo in my old 7mm08. 140gr going around 2660fps. Shot one yearling at 200 that dropped on the spot dead and a big velvet stag that expired very quickly after the shoulder shot. I wouldn't really trust it going much faster on anything big up close though tbh.

First two are exit wounds on a small kid.

Last one is exit wound on a decent sized nanny.

The performance on a good eating sized pig was great. Penetrated both Dron shoulders and was a bang flop. But not a very large exit hole.

These were maybe 30 M away for the goats.

And 50 M away for the pig.
