That's why I ordered one last week, from dx.com

I would have no idea how to estimate wind speed so I figured this would help me learn.

They're very cheap, around 10 bucks from memory

Hmmm, think we'll write today off as a learning experience

Ran out of elevation, and had to start using mildot holdover, and during the second string I somehow managed to get confused between wind direction and correction, and kept dialling more and more off the target

When I have a spare $18.70USD I will get one of these. Doesn't give you Baro pressure but will be a good indication of wind speed. The way I see it is you can see what the speed is where you are and what the effect is on the grass, tussock, trees and compare that to what is down range for a best guess. Can't hurt??

    2 schools of thought

    A) wind at start is more important, coz it kicks the projectile off its course, and sideways momentum does the rest

    B) wind is like gravity, it has more of an effect during the later stages of projectile flight, when the projectile is traveling slower and takes more time to cover distance, giving the wind more time to have an effect.
I would thank that's A and has been pretty much confirmed at least for me. Hence a wind meter local to you is of some value, not sure if $100+ is worth it but I know wind is the hardest thing to me allow for....proved that again today at 900m....Got it right, 3 x 5s and vs in a row wind moved and then 3 x 2s....bugger....made 2 x 1moa corrections in those as well ...so the wind must have shifted 3 moa on me.

    60 / 8 o'clock, 2 o'clock - 0.85
    45 -0.70
    30 / 7 o'clock, 1 o'clock - 0.50
    15 - 0.25
    00 / 6 o'clock, 12 o'clock - 0.00

    Correction formula:

(Distance [1/100 yds] x Wind [mph]) / Constant = MOA

There are different theories about the constant, to keep it simple, just use 12
So 10 mph wind from 3 (full value) @ 500 yds

    5 x 10 / 12 = 4.16 MOA correction

308 Palma target loads only, is there anything else to shoot ?

Well, most 308 should be close, formula was USMC for 168 bt, I think
