Canterbury Small game permit - DOC changes

For the last year and a half I've been emailing the Waimakariri DOC office for small-game hunting permits. They were real easy to get. I'd email them my details and usually they'd email me back with the permit to print and sign, or mail me one straight away. These permits covered North Canterbury/Arthur's Pass and this DOC office told me I can go anywhere in these areas with this small-game permit.

I tried applying this week for the same deal, only to be told that doesn't happen anymore, I need to apply for specific areas. Which of course, they never told me where these areas are.

I've spent so much time trying to find somewhere to hunt rabbits and now I have no info on where to go. Does anyone actually know what areas I can apply for this permit now? All I want to do is shoot some fucking rabbits.

Good luck!, have just had the runaround from them as well. Wanted a small game and game bird permit, the same as I have had for the past 5, 6 or 7 years. What a bloody rigmarole! Dickheads wouldn't know their arse from their elbow. I gave up and my son got it for me in the end. I know of a number of guys that have had the same problem and just given up - they go hunting for wascally wabbits and ducks etc as they always have, but dont bother with the permit.

. Now you would think that people who work for DoC are hunters, trampers, conservationists, and generally outdoor types but that is not the case. After talking to a guy who works for DoC came from forestry services he said a lot of the top brass use DoC as a stepping stone for greater things. Many who work there its just a 9 till 5 job and know jack shit but follow the rules supplied by idiots in charge. The guys doing the work as conservationists are often under funded, not well liked by the upper managers. They now can not shoot (pest control) on DoC land without another DoC ranger with them. There is shitloads of people who work at the main offices in Wellington doing what I dont know.
