    The lads first rabbit

Archie has just turned 7, hes only just started being able to see thru the scope and therefore able to shoot.

Hes right handed but turns out hes left eye dominant. So ive switched him over to shooting left handed and now hes away. Last time I had him at the range he was dinging a little flapper target at 50 yards with the kids youth 22lr.

I took him out to an orchard this evening after an early dinner, i had the t1x 17hmr with me.

Not far from the car we come across the perfect opportunity for him to have a crack at a rabbit that was undisturbed and only about 50 yards away.

He'd been studing his point of aim on a rabbit image/target on the drive out to the orchard and he pulled off a nice shot and dispatched it nice and quick.

He was pretty pleased with himself and a proud Dad moment for me.

He asked to take it home to eat it, and he'll keep the skin as a trophey too.

Will get some more range time under his belt, lots more rabbits, then we'll look at stepping up to a slighter bigger gun and get after some goats.

Hes mad keen on shooting a deer.

That's awesome GWH ! Really is great getting the kids involved. They are the future of our sport and another voice against the anti gun parade when they are older. You have some great times and memories heading your way and many more proud moments to enjoy !
Won't be long and he will be showing you how it's done...
It's even better when they get older because you can claim old age and make them carry the meat

That is just fantastic. It pleases me no end that dads are still doing what my dad and I have done.

Nah. Enjoy and relish the right now. Its the best time.

Them carrying stuff is a sign of our own creeping decline and fragility. Don't wish it on yourself (or get shares in a pharmaceutical company).

That's awesome Archie, well done and great shooting.
I've shot thousands ( cause I am really old ) but I can still remember my first rabbit. Keep up the good work and help Dad out.

Well done Dad, and well done Archie! These are the sort of posts that give me hope. Nothing quite like your first, and then the family enjoying the rewards at the dinner table.
