Thought id revive this thread. I do a fair bit of hare and possum shooting and have been plucking over winter. I wont be selling the fur but using it as filling for a duvet. Just gotta put my sewing skills to the test again to make the inner.
Because the fur will be stuffed in without any other processing id like to give it a wash to make sure its as free of allergens/dirt/mites as possible.
Im planning on jamming it into a double layer of tightly woven bags and chucking it through a wool wash cycle. Feel free to tell me if this is a shit idea and why.

    Cheers

Or just seal it in a plastic bag with some moth balls for a couple of weeks.
Then stick it in the freezer for a couple of weeks also.
That's how we get rid of silver fish from old document.

As long as you don't pluck too close to its butt I would say it's as clean as you will get it .
Winter possums are in great condition and i would think they spend countless hours cleaning themselves.

I have done 8kgs so far this winter through the traps and some thermal / spotlighting.
Trap lines are tapering off so will start spotlighting some higher areas now.

Trust me - every Hare we have had is melt in mouth and aint no Crock Pot been used (we don't have power apart from Solar)
Just be interested to hear more about sinew removal - think I know what he means and would make sense
