    CCI Gamepoint 20gr 2375fps, V Max 17gr 2550fps and TNT 17gr 2550fps.

The issues I have with the 17 gr are with my 10 shot Savage semi auto, the 17 gr fails to recycle the action on occasion, never with the 20 gr

17 gr in the bolt savage,20 gr in the semi auto

I’ve addressed Savage with my issue, they of course say it shouldn’t be an issue(liability maybe)but on several gun forums I frequent, others have had the same results, with the 17gr in the semi autos

I just ordered the Rock River arms 17 HMR on an AR platform semi auto… hopefully that won’t be an issue(they say it’s not)

Yeah mate will do….. not sure why some get bent out of shape because of the AR platform…. The biggest thing I like is the extending stock and the multiple attachments one can address…. It’s use… rats and prairie dogs…. A thermal scope a must

I got a Tikka a little while back when my 22lr wore out, absolute game changer for those longer shots and I have not met a bunny that could take a hit and hop away. Love my bolt guns, but the semi looks very cool!

I've only used Hornady recently and I'd recommend checking point of impact between batches. I've been told that the most recent batch is significantly faster than the older batch. Seems to be the case as I switched between batches the other night and was sending rounds over the top of hares at longer range when earlier in the night I couldn't miss. Yet to verify this on paper. Other than the batch difference I'm very happy with terminal performance.

When I had my old hmr, I found the Remington ammo really good and it had the same point of impact as the Hornady stuff.

I think it's definitely a case of try one and see how it goes, that's the nature of rimfires as it seems.
Load of rubbish, both batches in the same speed range, however my zero had shifted up 1 moa. I'm not sure why it did this, maybe the barrel running in?maybe my zero was off to start with...

All sorted now though, off bunny slaying again this weekend with a bit of luck.

But, yeah in an ideal world we’d check each new batch at a short range where no wind is a play and a long range for trajectory. And after falling over on your rifle so I dont want to chop and change too much, specially if V-Max is going out of production. Best policy is to buy heaps of the same batch in one go but 1000 HMR is more like a major capital expense, not within quarterly budget plans. Looking for advice which one to try next; I dont want to test several sorts.
Nice shooting then! What do you mean vmax going out of production?

Quick google and yes the Yamaha Vmax is gone out of production 2020.
...also was talk of hornady had discontinued and replaced certain weight and calibre types of the vmax projectiles in the past. The only new range of bullets on their web site is "Match type" for 2025.

Thats why CCI manufactured specifically the A17 ammo for your exact rifle... printed on the box, its 100fps faster than most of the other ammo, designed to cycle the semi auto action... I'm almost out of that brick - works great in the CZ457 - however after more testing with MANY differing weights and types, CCI, Hornady and Winchester varieties - found the Hornady XTP is about touching at 100 - so theres my next lot when the A17 runs out.

In my experience can there be huge differences between different 17 HMR ammo and different rifles like, dislike or hate different ammo.
There can even be big differences between different lots of one ammo type.
I highly recommend that you buy many boxes of the same lot if you find one ammo and lot that you really like in your rifle.
