    Rabbit hunting questions

    hi all

went out on sunday and did some rabbit hunting (yay) forgot to take pics (doh). between me and my mate we shot 5 and recovered 2, the other 3 were in a paddock with some agitated young steers who didnt want us in there.

anyway I came across some things that got me thinking and wanted to get your guys advice on a few things as I know some of you have been hunting rabbits since you were knee high to a short ladder, so here they are.

    1) i want the rabbits for meat, is it best to gut them immediately?

    2) whats the best method for skinning?

    3) is there a small game hunting association or club in welly?

    cheers

For skinning, make a small nick in the middle of the back through the skin, then just slip a finger or two in each side and pull.

At least from what what I can remember, that's the way to go. Been a while..

First thing to do is hold the head or front legs. And gently squeeze it's gut to push it's pee out.
To skin... as striker said. Put knife under skin Making a hole and use hands to pull apart and off like a jersey.(warm is best)
After that I would treat like all other meat. Gut straight away to start the body cooling. Don't put in plastic bag use something breathable and clean like a pillow case.

Yeh but he should avoid these if he's into eating rabbits. Stick with the younger/female ones
