Yes, they exist. They take rabbits from contract shooters. Getting properties to shoot is likely to be the biggest hurdle. You would also need about $20k worth of quad, something to pull it with and sundry gear. And a work permit. And a firearm permit.

Best thing would be to come out here on holiday and rock into Tekapo without any expectations. Got to the pub. Shout a few rounds. Ask low key questions but don't be nosey. Someone might take you under their wing. Or you might get punched. Its probably worth the risk.

I can't get out of my apartment contract for this year, so my vacation will have to be postponed until next year.

    Thanks for the info everyone.

RCD/Calici is the big problem if you want to go professional , we have had 2 lots go through this year and it isnt worth going out for a look at the moment as most have died off .
Get as close as you can then six feet closer

I run a factory in Whangarei (North of Auckland). We have hunters that make a good living sourcing rabbits, hares, wallabies, possums, and soon goat and venison will be added (pending MPI signoff).

So, yes, you can make money but not if you are the 'weekend warrior' hunter. You need access to land that the landowner can signoff as poison free, a gun license (N.Z one)- you can get a semi auto dispensation for hunting pests, and you need to fill out a test...a tiny 2 pages, 1 line answers.

Animals are gutted in the field and chilled. Once you have 300 kilos or so we pick up and pay CASH.

I won't go into rates on here again, that was futile, but we pay way more than anyone else because we make it into premium raw vacuum packed petfood.

New shop open in FOX outlet centre in Northcote if anyone in Auck wants to have a chat about hunting for me.

Come see the game meats, they look awesome.

No weekend warriors pls, only serious guys or gals.

    H.

LOL best advice ever..........being Tekapo you will get punched then taken under someones wing so long as you don't winge about being punched.

A cobber i work with is doing it independently on the side for a game and pet food company.. He gets NZ $7 each for a Hare. Has to be a head shot. Intestines removed and in the chiller within 24 hours? Not sure about rabbits. He had to get a special game sale type licence? I know that much and just varmints the farms around his house on his days off... There are a few companys around that are specialized in varminting but positions are few and far between because who wouldnt want to shoot stuff for money!! Sorry can't be more helpful.
