Thread: Sitting on back of truck

Got most of my gear like hand held thermal, pard 007s, plenty of 22 hornet ammo, it's just turned dark and two rabbits got spotted munching away close to each other, I waited till they were lined up and let drive, of course you can't see anything after the flame takes away your vision but I did hear a thump. Up with the thermal and there's two rabbits down on the ground not moving, a couple of minutes later they are still there, bit of luck there. Now waiting for the others.

What's the hornet you've got?

Brno 465. Got a pig on the way home, hit him high on the shoulder so jumped out and as his eyes were shut I give him another one for good measure.
One thing I did forget was the biped front legs for shooting over the roof. Must get a swivel chair for the bunnies that pop up behind. I'm using a tripod to the sides and behind.

They should go alright. I have 3 of them. One shoots the 35 vmax really well. Another one is shooting what I think is a winchester pill that ive got a heap of, and my main hornet I use is shooting 45gn speers. I found the hornady match ammo ok but nothing comes close to handloads in the little hornet. Once you start handloading your either going to love it or hate it. Me I love the little round.

Out again tonight, quite warmish for mid of June so the pesky mosquitoes come out to annoy me. A few shots and the rabbits stayed deep in the rubbish so took to travelling as one way to dodge the mozzie. Bugger me where I shot the pig last night was another, he turned away so no head shot and as he was nearly at the teatree i put one in his spine and down the piggy went. Trying to save brass doesnt allow one to be a speedie Gonzalez and as I'm fumbling about the pork takes a mighty leap and disappears into the crap, which left me in the crap. Ah well job for the morning. Might go out about midnight again.

My brother come out to stay for a few days, he rang from the road as couldn't find the entrance to my property, I told him to stay at the road and I would come down to show him the way. As I'm driving down the farm track another bloody pig scoots for the brush, same spot as the other two pigs, must be a pig hiway crossing. I didn't have a pill up the spout so lucky porky.

Last night I was out after wabbit or two and a pig wondered out of the forest, wasn't big but I still needed a good spot to sight for as there were bits of fern and things in the road. As my shooting is of the back of the Ute and the pig was hard right I had to become ambidextrous, I'm shooting a lovely old brno 465 22 hornet with a double trigger, back one sets the front to an nice crisp letoff, no problem normally as I'm right handed but using my lefties i kept putting the forefinger on the second trigger, very frustrating as it took me a while and many clicks to wake up. He wondered off but just before disappearing into the scrub again turned side on and I gave him one in the back of the swede. Up in the dark this morning to do some butchering , including 2 deer, a dorper sheep and rabbits, took all this down the road to a home kill to be turned to sausages, no hassle modern cook. Getting like our man Tahr, will give most of it away.

5 am yesterday I packed the back of the wellside with dry firewood and a heap of sausages in the back of the cab and off I went way up the road to pick up my new (to me) winnie in 300wsm. Before getting to the gate a porker goes trotting along the track, another lucky one, no rifle of course, can't carry them around in the vehicle in the big smoke. Give me back the good old days where I could wonder down Wills St with the old 303 over my shoulder.

Got up at 12.30 to watch the end of womens wimbledon tennis. After a cuppa I turned on the thermal spotter and leaned out the windows to see three bunnies playing follow the leader.Put the magazine in the 22lr and walked back to the windows to of course see not cute bunnies. Went out the door and a bit to the right to see some down behind the big tree, hunched over to the BBQ benches and set up n then turned on the pard, having lowered my position all I could see was long grass, but they were there, once the 22 hornet comes back from the gunsmith I'll be back on the back of the vehicle to give me a higher vision and most of the pesky wee rabbits will depart. Walked back inside and looked out the windows once more and a suicidal rabbit come into view .lined up and send him to the happy grass place.

Picked up my rifle from the gunshop. The gunsmith was told to test via boresight as he'd put new bases on for me to install forward leaning mounts, doh, bloody he'll can't get enough height with the projectiles, about six inches low at 25 mtrs.
The only good news for the day one shop said they had confirmation that the primer shipment would be delivered within a fortnight.
