Went out walkabout last nite, no vehicle, took the 300 wsm just in case a deer or pig was out. Rabbits all over the place, some very close, bet ya the buggers knew I had the cannon along.
This morning went to the west side by the boundary to chuck a couple of worm spreaders under the trees to attract night time scavengers. Nearly tripped over a pig, now a wee while back I'd taken a shot at a pig but felt that it was a miss, no it's just that I must of got confused in the dark on its position when I fired the shot shame about that
So tonite i go for another walkabout but take the 22 lr. Get to the top of the rise to where I have a pellet and a couple of 4x2s in the base of a forked tree over looking a
Lovely hollow, just right for animals to hangout in.
Thru the thermal I see nothing, not even a rabbit, once more a sweep and on further to the right behind some trees a large mass, not moving, hmm, still not moving so I backtrack and come in behind thru a track that I'm cleaning up when time allows. Get to about thirty mtrs and in the thermal I see a giant boar, lying down, just forward of my target tree on my shooting range. Set up the tripod and turn on dear pard , line up behind the ear and squeeze the trigger, bugger, he took off. Put on the thermal again and see the boar just inside the scrub going around in circles, headache me things but by the time I sorted myself out he disappeared into the forest. A morning hunt for me.
The moral of the story is carry a big banger with you all the time. Be glad when I get the hornet back, then it's back on the back of the truck.

Did take the big banger last nite, lots of rabbits but no deer or pigs.
Did a circle and thru the thermal see a worm spreaders hiding amongst a fern covered tree copse, sat down as having the tripod low down and bum hugging the ground gives me great stability. On with the pard and one in the shoulder it's good night for pesky poo.

Tonight I'm back on the truck deck. Got the 22lr and the big cannon, get there just before dark and set up, the 22 over the cab on a cushion and the 30 cal gets the bipod. Not quite dark n a wee moon coming out too.turn on the thermal and yes some wabbits out n about, in the next paddock at 220 mtrs is a very dark black thing, can't tell what it is but grab the pard off the 22 and locate onto the back on the 30 cal. Now back on with the thermal and the stump hadn't moved, because that's what it was. I will go down with the chainsaw and take its legs right at ground level.
Back to a swap and on to the rabbits, fuk, a bloody misfire, reload and look thru the thermal no rabbits, heard the bolt being worked. So I wait a bit and turn the thermal on again and there is bunny there, looks like a miss but they can run with a lung shot. Reload and the next rabbit flops down on the spot, good.
I in the five acre paddock and its 220 yrds long by 80 wide so a bit too long if the rabbits are at the far corners, and of course that's where they seem to enjoy being the most. After a while one pops up a bit to the right at 80 yrds, another misfire, reload and fun another misfire. Third time lucky but he bolted with a new haircut. Decided to go home and come back when the 22 hornet comes back from the gunsmith.
