Went out walkabout last nite, no vehicle, took the 300 wsm just in case a deer or pig was out. Rabbits all over the place, some very close, bet ya the buggers knew I had the cannon along.
This morning went to the west side by the boundary to chuck a couple of worm spreaders under the trees to attract night time scavengers. Nearly tripped over a pig, now a wee while back I'd taken a shot at a pig but felt that it was a miss, no it's just that I must of got confused in the dark on its position when I fired the shot shame about that
So tonite i go for another walkabout but take the 22 lr. Get to the top of the rise to where I have a pellet and a couple of 4x2s in the base of a forked tree over looking a
Lovely hollow, just right for animals to hangout in.
Thru the thermal I see nothing, not even a rabbit, once more a sweep and on further to the right behind some trees a large mass, not moving, hmm, still not moving so I backtrack and come in behind thru a track that I'm cleaning up when time allows. Get to about thirty mtrs and in the thermal I see a giant boar, lying down, just forward of my target tree on my shooting range. Set up the tripod and turn on dear pard , line up behind the ear and squeeze the trigger, bugger, he took off. Put on the thermal again and see the boar just inside the scrub going around in circles, headache me things but by the time I sorted myself out he disappeared into the forest. A morning hunt for me.
The moral of the story is carry a big banger with you all the time. Be glad when I get the hornet back, then it's back on the back of the truck.
