Here's a short bit of preview footage from some 17 Hornet rabbit shooting action yesterday, enjoy!

22lr is well known for richochets. So depending on the property and whats around it, i find 22lr especially with subs can be quite dangerous with richochets randomly zinging all over the show.

Where as something like 17hmr or 17 Hornet on the bigger properties i hunt run light and very frangible projectiles, than blow up as soon as they hit anything, no richochets and no bullets passing thru rabbits. They just vaporize. Making them far safer in my opinion.

Also on the apple orchard i like the lazer like trajectory and extended useful range i can basically guarantee a hit at. Pretty much anything i see inside 250 yards is dead.

On properties that have high numbers you need a very effective tool for killing them, rather than having misses and educating them.

I love my 17hmr but a 17 hornet would be better... Left hand 17 hornet for sale anyone???

The ricochet issue with .22 vs .17 is precisely what I have noticed.

    Nice shooting!
Have been contemplating a 17hmr lately and this doesn't help me resisting the urges

Thanks for the reply GWH, have some 35gr Vmax i plan on testing to see if i can achieve the same result. Provided grouping allows, i'll push them as fast as possible and see if i can achieve the same outcome.

I used a .22LR for years on bunnies and was quite happy with it until my mate came out with his .17HMR and cleaned me up. Whereas my subs were running out of energy and accuracy inside 100m his HMR was quite happy out to about 130m, taking no prisoners. After a few days of getting my ass kicked I decided there was only one thing to do - go bigger. The .223 takes no prisoners and I'm loving those long range shots out to 200m. But I admit the HMR is awesome on soft-skinned game like rabbits. Impressively deadly.

Love your video @GWH Great work.

Home loading the 17HH with 20grn Vmax is very economical & the ideal bunny & long distance magpie round.

Look the eyeballs. Any solid projectiles in the market, do more penetration?
