Hmmm, well im eating my words now, the box of 555 I opened yesterday is terrible!!!!! I shot 1 hare out of 7shots, I can normally rely on 9 out of 10 shots with the little Marlin.

Yep got a box of fed bulk here that is relegated to kids/missus plinking, wont even expand shot into soft pine!

I have found Remington "Golden Bullet" to be the most pathetic excuse for ammunition I have ever come across. I get the impression Remington must employ drunk Mexican border hoppers in their ammo plant. Seriously, my 10/22 runs like a clock with CCI, Winchester etc but this shit you are lucky to get through a mag without having a miss fire, a bunch of sub sonics, or a failure to eject. You can literally hear the difference in sound from shot to shot. Why do they bother?
Actually I take that back - Mexicans can make good ammo. Remington can't.
Cant comment as to semi auto .22 rifle, but have found my S&W 422 seems to love it (so far), was just doing a search to see who has it the cheapest price and this page came up.
have tried several other brands and they have been nowhere near as reliable as this. (in my firearm)
federal bulk - worst - several ammo related failures per mag
winchester bulk - not good - at least 1 per mag
federal auto match - ok - 1 every other mag
CCI standard - good - every few mags
Winchester power point - V good - havent shot much, is too expensive. i think had 1 failure out of about 100 rnds.
Remington golden bulk - yet to have failure, after several hundred rounds.
i realize several hundred rounds isnt much for definitive conclusion, this is still my first box. but is looking very promising, looking for cheapest place to get a few more boxes.
i had previously avoided this ammo because it has such bad rep, as above comments suggest, read plenty more like it. but well worth trying in any individual firearm to see if it works for you or not id say.
i have a bolt action rifle .22 so no reliability issues there, altho i have yet to test it in it to see how horribly inaccurate it is haha. thats a whole different issue.
I'm told the bulk ammo packs are made up from rounds made when the dies are close to being out of tolerance, before they re-tool the line. So they are the CRAP that is left.
I was in GunCity the other day ... just looking I swear ... and I'm sure the guy behind the counter said that they were buying up a lot (all) of .22LR ammo as they are expecting to see a world wide shortage ... strange I know but could be possible given all the craziness in the US. So if you love to plink >> best stock up maybe.
Most of our Winchester ammo comes out of Aussie for the .22 so it should be safe.
I think it might have been the Winchester where they purchased all remaining stock ... I might have it wrong?
The Winchester is produced both in Aussie and yankland. Our main supply is Aus, but there is some of the yank crap around.
Vmax in a 22LR is an interesting idea, I wonder what's the minimum velocity Vmaxs need to perform? I understand HM2 is 2100ft/s.
Does seam a bit like powering a 911 with a Bettle motor though so I'd probably yoink them and stick them in a CF if they were cheaper to buy that way.
According to hornadys data the wmr vmax is only doing 1000fps at 200y and by all accounts its still very effective at that range/velocity if you can hit what your aiming at.
So launched at 1600 odd fps from 22lr should add a few yards effective range and better terminal effect.
22wmr was legendary for less accuracy than its real effective range, v max changed that, all of a sudden they were accurate with a proper pill instead of a lump of lead with a copper wash.
