    …a while between drinks….

Not quite as title says but certainly a while between shooting a deer..

Not to say I haven’t been out though between not seeing anything, shooting at something (a couple of times) n not connecting I did start to wonder…

Headed out to a property I have access to for a night shoot as they had recently cut paddocks for silage. That was almost a non event as quite windy n not much out. Managed to smack two hares though.

Parked up quad n went for a moonlit walk with a murupara moonbeam… Nope, nothing.
I was more prepared this time though as on a the previous occasion I did this I shot at a deer, no connecto, went n checked to make sure n got my legs slashed to bits with the blackberry.
Was more prepared this time n wore canvas chaps(ex Squires Taihape funny enough)

Next n now last plan otherwise known as the last roll of the dice, heads to another pine block. This was first rotation plantings(you know where I’m heading with this) so ground was clean…ish underfoot and had been grazed in the winter with cattle.

Plan worked out. Deer spotted. Quad turned of n rifle loaded, moon beam on. No time for drop charts or ballistic apps or range finders or …just aim n shoot
All I had was face on head shoot available. I took it. Bang flop with the mighty .223 over a massive distance of …20-30 metres. Still took me a couple of minutes to find it in the long grass.

Did it a bit low in face. Projectile went through to smash the neck so ideal. Zero waste of meat(on the shooting part anyway)
Happy days, a bit of meat for self and giveaways.

    Deer down

good stuff....three good eating animals there...seeing them together sure puts size of the fallow into perspective.

Haha there's a mob of really good stags just a bit north of your place on the other side of the main road. They are there every time I go passed.
    Overkill is still dead.
