    13 Mile bush/Porters Pass Culling

    Gday there

Over the past few weeks have heard reports of heli culling activity in the wider porters pass area.

Had a helicopter flying up and down the valley we were hunting performing all sorts of manoeuvres when it was pretty obvious we were there, so can only assume that’s part of it.

Was wondering if anyone knows anything about it, and what areas they were targeting?

    Cheers

Check with the local DoC office.
Experience. What you get just after you needed it.

If it WARO, there is no requirement of notification.

Tahr control operations are currently underway too. This include some control outside or the management units.

It could also just be someone having a play.

I flew back over Porters Pass in a heli two weeks ago but not hunting having flown deeper into the alps. Anyone with a WARO permit can do what they like - DOC just issue them as the above post says. Generally hunters report deer hanging on a strop, front doors off and the type of machine or trailer chiller truck parked on the rd side etc. Anything else is pure speculation - might have been a rescue heli operation occurring? It's all in the detail. Just saying.
