    1st Time Fiordland Hunting

I am possibly going to be going hunting in Fiordland late October/early November time, location as yet to be confirmed.
Are there any must have items (besides the obvious) that I would be wise to take?
Any general advice/ experiences/ stories much appreciated.
If the enemy is in range, so are you!

Where are you "thinking" in Fiordland? Hut/boat/tent based? Fly in? Boat in?

Presume if you're hunting you'll be after meat only (stags will have dropped by then).

Take a good raincoat, insect repellent, decent tent, fly to put over tent, decent binos, decent camera, PLB for a start.
I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.

Have watched a few you tube videos, so insect repellent is No1 on the list!
I believe we are flying in from Milford, final destination is yet to be confirmed but possibly going to try for one of the huts to use as a base camp.
What ever we end up doing it's certainly going to be an adventure for 3 Englishmen and our Kiwi cultural adviser we are taking with us!
We have booked some good weather too just to be on the safe side.

That poor kiwi ! I can only imagine the wingding with 3 poms stuck in a hut at the wettest time of the year ha ha .
Best thing I just took to Fiordland was a $10 head / insect vale and a pair of $6 Polly pro fingerless gloves . Plus keep it simple , good basic strong waterproof gear ! . If you at the coast take wettie and mask and snorkel . Crays at 2-3 mts water

Dont under estimate how wet and cold it can be. There aren't actually that many huts off the main tramping tracks, so a good tent is a must.

If you're flying in, just take the usual stuff you would normally take on a hunting trip. Fiordland no different, it's just a bit steeper, a bit deeper and can rain more than most places.

Like Munsey said. Wettest time of the year. That also means highest sandfly numbers. If any piece of skin is not covered the little buggers will bite it, they are worst near fresh running water. But that is a small price to pay for visiting and hunting in one of the most spectacular and pristine places on the globe. Enjoy.

If you haven't sorted a PLB yet, we will soon be renting them out at work.
