Ok fellas, fullesses and FML you gender neutral mofo's

Having missed out on a winter ballot block my thoughts are now with the Summer Ballot.
My question to you guys is, are any of you also thinking "yeah summer Tahr sounds nice?" or " nah I'll be fishin".

Yeah I have had a gander and I realise its really no more a ballot than the Molesworth one (note, missed out on that fuker too ) its first in first served.
The cynics out there could say its a bit of DOC window dressing getting us (hunters) taking an active part in controlling Tahr numbers. Well if it is, so what.
I know I put a summer access option into the wilderness areas to control Tahr as a submission when the Cull shitstorm started. I'm glad some like minded future thinkers also thought that it was a good idea also.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this too. Good and Bad. Maybe this should be a thread of its own. Let me know.

I hadn't yesterday afternoon so emailed them and asked. Got this back:

"We are still working on sending out the results from the draw as it is quite a lengthy process with lots of applicants to get though. I have looked up your application # *and can tell you that you have unfortunately been unsuccessful. You should receive your official unsuccessful email in the next few days, this email will also contain your link for the 2nd*chance draw for the Winter ballot."

If it's not a first round hit you need to practice more

Email today with bad news yet again.
My goodness it is difficult to win a tahr ballot with this year being the 5th year of no success.

@yogi I think with all of the exposure the Tahr got with DOC,Sage and the cull I reckon there was more applications than ever. But, Im only surmising.
It also didn't help that a good portion of the best blocks in the Adams area were off limits due to the ZIP Program.

They reckon it comes in three's. Ive missed on the Molesworth,Haast Roar and the Winter tahr ballots. Roll on next year

Same here. 5 years is $350 bucks for nothing. Fortunately I have other plans.

They need to change the system imho.
I also have a pretty good idea some people get the same blocks year after year. Say what they like but it's certainly rigged for some.

It needs to be revamped and indipendant from Doc.
If successful one year you should not be allowed to apply for say another 2 years.
Overseas applicants flood the ballot as well. They should not be allowed unless theyre NZ residents. Or be charged markedly more for an app.
Wasting my breath because our government departments never give a shit or use any common sense.

    Agree %100.

    Now heres a thought.
If when can get the Tahr as a Game animal recognised the same as the Wapiti are (HOSI).
Then get the Tahr foundation to set up in the similar fashion as the Wapiti Foundation have.
Now this is where the thinking gets radical.
The Tahr Ballots could be run using the same format as the Wapiti Foundation run their Bugle ballot.
Their Ballot system looks to be one of the fairest around with the lowest chance of being able to be rigged as the Tahr system can be.
With all members being registered and when applying you can only select them members on the list for that application.
@R93 I think the current system is rife for rigging and I also believe the same blokes get the same blocks year on year. You dont hear the same with the Wap blocks.
The 2 Tahr ballots that i have been able to get on were what was left at the end of the month when people confirmed their ballots. They were both end of the periods too.
