Wondering if anyone’s had experience with the 55 gr V Max from a .22-250 on wallaby’s as I’m wondering if i need to switch to soft points for better penetration

lol for wallabies penertration is not needed, the softer the better.they are very lightly built boneand skin wise..I use 50 grn Zmax in the .223 at about 3k and they work great....used to use 50 grn spsx hornadies and man did they make a mess, killed VERY well.
vitals arent covered /protected by much, spine is large,Ive shot hundreds of the little hoppers and never found a projectile too fragile...even 110grn hps in poohseventy arent to light/soft they very messy but very good.
Cheers for that mate
Even 17gr V-Max’s from a 17hmr smokes them, they’re not much different from a rabbit or hare

Used the 58 gr Vmax in my .243 on foxes, bang flop devastating.
I cant remember the velocity I would suggest fast and flat.
Would think the Vmax would do the job well as long as a big trophy Wapiti bull dont jump out in front of you.
thats what the couple of barnes TTSX loads in your top pocket are for......
Like Micky Duck said, wallabies are soft. You don't really want to use a harder projectile as it can pencil through and let the bugger hop away to die somewhere else instead of on the spot. Bro's 25-06 tended to do that, can't remember what bullets.
The chest area isn't that much different to a large hare (but upright), most of the bulk and muscle is in the legs and you shouldn't be aiming there anyway.
I have used the 55gr vmaxs in 223 on everything, goats and deer included. I think they will be rather impressive on wallaby!
55grn VMAX out of .22-250 has got to be impressive anyway...pink mist anyone???
Yeah I use 55gr VMAX out of my 22-250. Used it on wallabies in the past, effective as everyone else has said!
50gr zmax go well in the 22-250 but not as well as the 90gr tnt in the 264 win mag...
Warm Barrels!
I use the 53vmax from the 223 for wallabies etc, has the effect you would expect.
I have shot a lot of wallabies with my 22-250 using Hornady 52 gn z-max (similar to v max) over the last few years and they are an absolutely perfect projectile.
They expand very well and knock them over generally on the spot.
Have used other soft nose projectiles that pass through to quick without expansion and result in wallabies travelling 20 meters or more before expiring.
Save our Tahr. They belong in the southern alps.
